I have a Head Graphite Professional (black, red and gray w/gold letters) The one I have is pretty worn in the top area and it seems the paint is extra thick , almost rubber like. Kinda weird cause it looks like it is layered graphite that has delaminated but frame still hits good. Is this some sort of reinforced area since there were no headguards? Thanks for yoru help.

Yes, there's a rubber or hard plastic layer in the layup under the paint there, serving as a primitive bumper guard of sorts. Head composite frames in this era had this feature.
