head instinct...popular?

Just wondering if lots of people like the head instinct, flexpoint or liquidmetal, because it seems that A LOT of WTA pros use it, and even some ATP players, like richard gasquet (if its not a paintjob), so does anyone know why it appeals to so many players? maybe its the specs? or feel?

Heya Mojo, I have just purchased the Instinct (Flexpoint model) and I love it. It has so much ball feel, enough power to help me win crucial points and is very easy on the elbow. I can now go for my shots rather than hang back and try to be gentle as I did with my O3. It feels solid without having lead on it, unlike my O3, which only felt solid when I put lead on it. Both my baseline and net play has risen enormously, and this not just me saying that, I have had lots of people come up to me and tell me that my game has improved outta sight. If only I had known about this racquet sooner. I played comp tonight and won all my sets. I just happened to play one of the organisers of the comp nd happened to hear him say that I am definitely going up one division next comp. I have to put this comment down to the racquet. This racquet has given me so much confidence its amazing!! If you are thinking of buying one... by all means, test drive it... I am sure you will be impressed.

Thanks

Andrew

I had a chance to hit briefly with the FP Instinct. It has a very solid, plow-thru-the-ball with control feel to it from the baseline, despite it relatively light static weight of around 11.2oz (strung). Maybe that's why the WTA pros like it ?

It's SW is around 330, which is similar to the nCode61 95, which I'm sure contributes to the solid feel. It supposedly is 3pts headlight, but felt more headheavy than that to me.

A racket with a similar feel is the nCode nTour95.

I'm contemplating switching to a LM or a FP Instinct. One of my younger brothers use a LM Instinct and I love the way it plays. Much like a more solid, more refined Pure Drive, IMO.

Does the FP play the same as the LM? And does anyone know if there is going to be a tour version of the FP?

To me, who uses the LM Instinct as a backup to the PD and strings at 50# w 16 guage syngut on both, the FP(which I demoed) is an improvement. It plays just slighly stiffer (to me an ideal flex), and feels 4pts headlight unlike the LM which feels head heavy. If price were no object, I would rank them as 1)FP Instinct 2)PD Standard 3)LM Instinct.

no pros on either tour use the flexpoints that you can buy off TW or any local pro shop, they're mainly paintjobs. however, i believe the instinct line was made for people who couldnt handle the prestiges or the radicals. imo, the prestiges and radicals are both better, but if they are too heavy for you, you might want to consider the instinct

Has anyone noticed if the FP Instinct has a slightly rounder grip shape than the LM Instinct? I am thinking of going back to my LM Instinct from the Babolat APD, but thought the FP Instinct might also be worth a try. Thanks.

well gasquet is actually using the instinct
last time i saw a LM,
but hes played around with both the regular instinct and the XL,
but he plays them with leather grips,
no overgrip though

maybe it's just me but when i tried the FP instinct, it didn't feel solid at all. had good power but did not feel solid. it also felt more headheavy than the specs suggest.

I play with a Head Flexpoint Instinct and it's a pretty solid racket. I like the fact that it's a little head light, making the racket feel more balanced. It has really great spin but I'm a recreational player so I look for comfort in a racquet more than anything else, and the FP Instinct really gets there; there's so much pop, it's great. When I hit the ball and feel that pop, that no other racket that I've tried can match, it gives me such a rush. It didn't cause me any arm/shoulder pain when I switched from my older racket, one that was significantly lighter. (7.3'ish ounces) It doesn't pack as big a punch as other rackets in its price range, but I'm assuming that most people who are looking to upgrade to a player's racket should be able to provide their own power, and would prefer to tip the scale in favor of control. Mine is about 11.4 ounces including all the overgrips I have on it, etc., and it doesn't feel so much heavy as it is solid.

The design of the racket itself is nice. I have a habit of grabbing the neck area after I swing and that part of the racket is very smooth and curvy. The finish is nice, it came flawless. There's no other player's racket that can match it in comfort, IMO.

One note however, I accidentally dropped my racket a few weeks ago and the paint chipped to where I can see the metal/graphite under. If you don't mind a few chips here and there, or if you're really good at keeping your rackets in good condition, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Overall, I give it an 8.5/10.

Strengths: Pop, spin, balance, comfort.

Weakness: Paint seems more sensitive to chips than other rackets.

To reply to the inital post, I would go with the feel & the litttle extra pop. the frame has a little more controllable power than the radical IMHO .

I demoed the LM Instinct and hated it..,I dislike this frame very much.
Hmm... ironically, even though I loved the feel of the FlexPoint Instinct long before I owned one, I never felt the urge to try its Liquidmetal brother. Has anyone tried both of them? How do they compare?
