Head tape is used at the tip of your racquet's head to protect it from scratches that may occur. Lead tape is used to increase your racquet's weight and you can use it pretty much anywhere you want on your racquet.

is head tape worth the hassel? If you are not going to be selling your racquet is there a benefit?

Yes. If your racquet (like mine was till it finally cracked) is worn on one side because you constantly slice your backhand into the ground, it added about 4-5 weeks to my racquet that I thought I would never have.
