It seems that no Nasdaq matches are being shown on espn2 today or tomorrow. Is this right or am I missing something. Seems like with the two finals, one of them would be on either today or tomorrow.

WTF! It's a quarter past noon, the match is supposedly underway and CBS is showing some stupid anti-acne paid programming!

Weird, sounds like your local programming has overrided the Tennis match for some infomercials, they do that with football here sometimes. Sucks.

I checked my DirectTV guide and it says noontime for the coverage to start. I wonder if they are showing it delayed. Stupid TV guide online

This nuts! Is it really the american jingoism? The TV station managers in smaller towns probably think that more people would watch that paid programming cr@p than a tennis final match between two top russians!

Please get a clue, seriously. If a locally owned CBS affiliate has pre-empted tennis to show an infomercial, that decision wasn't made this morning, it was made weeks ago when the contracts were signed. Pick up the phone and call the station and ask them what is going on. Perhaps they will show the tennis delayed, perhaps they won't show it all, but it makes more sense to call the station and get an answer than to kvetch about it here. Probably wouldn't hurt to send an email to CBS-New York via their website either. They seem to have the least control over the affiliates than any of the big 3 networks.

By the way, there was already a thread on this topic less than half way down the first page:

For all our complaining, suddenly espn doesn't seem so bad  they maybe wouldn't have shown it live, but probably would've fit the tape in at 3am or something.

    Hi,

I have a clue.. I already called my local station and made calls to our local Community Tennis Assoc. to have more folks call. Last year our local ProShop did the same with no results. I have also left voice mail and e-mail at CBS. BTW.. our local paper had both the Mens and Ladies final listed. If there was a "famous" American in either final they would have carried it. They never missed a final that included AA or the Williams Sisters. So I am not clueless.. I know the score. I am just unhappy that I can't see the final since I have seen most of the coverage on ESPN2. Stations are there to make money..paid programming was the way to go.. for them and I understand that all to well... just not happy about it.

    Regards,
    Steve

Well, i called my station and they claimed that it was a mistake on the network's part, and that they intend to show the men's final tomorrow as scheduled. We'll see

    Steve,
My comment was directed to the post directly above mine, not you, but I applaud your efforts. Sucks to live an area that doesn't care about tennis regardless of who is playing it, but I would still try to get more information from a station about why they are not carrying the final before throwing an accusation like that around.

    Fee,

I have left messages at my local station many times.. they never call back. They also dodge my calls when they are open for business. I get an intern, an admin person.. never the person that makes the call. I have never received a response from anyone at a network regarding any message left on voice mail or e-mail. All I can conclude is that they could care less about anything related to what one person has to say. It is a fact.. that have have shown the Williams Sisters and AA many times in the NASDAQ event.

    Regards,
    Steve

Yeah, but it wasn't on in the Seattle area at all according to other posters here and I find that an unfortunate statement about tennis. CBS seems to have the least amount of control over their affiliates. I have a friend in Iowa who regularly misses parts of the USO in favor of local college football games on her CBS affiliate. No way CBS allows that to happen to other sporting events it pays for.

I believe it helps if there is a high placed network executive who loves tennis. The Canadian sports network TSN shows huge amounts of tennis...and tennis is nowhere in Canada, behind hockey, curling, and log-rolling, and there is no logical reason as far as i can see for showing it. Smaller network I guess, and we're lucky enough to sometimes get ESPN Latino with Brit commentators , and the European masters. We do suffer through CBS for some finals, but it's shown complete by the French sports network too.

    Yes,

That is a very unfortunate statement about tennis in general... they do seem to be able to cover "sports" like poker???
