To add to an already tough squad, Tennys Sandgren will be attending Tennessee in January unless he has a stellar result at his next few Futures. Tennessee has already proven to be a contender this year with great results from JP Smith and Boris Conkic. Rhyne Williams will be a contender for Freshman of the Year given he plays to his capability. Tennys will be a great addition, look out for the to make a good run.

Maybe Sandren will change his first name to Tenness ? JP Smith is a player, no doubt about that, not sure if Boris is going to be a player to rely in once you get to the NCAA tournamnet, saw him wilt last year vs. Texas, but maybe this year will be a different story.

Yep, Davey's there too. Never seen two brothers so different. Davey is so level headed on court, a real grinder. Tennys, not so much. He hits big and can be emotional on court. His January addition will either go the way of Chase Buchanan or Devin Britton. Only time will tell.

Happens all the time. Certainly does not make it right. Hope you don't get to ill watching the Vols dominate college tennis on 2010.

I am looking forward to seeing them play Virginia and the other national title contenders. I think Sandgren elevates Tennessee into the ranks of legitimate national title contenders, but they will not be dominating the likes of USC, Virginia, Texas, UCLA, et al. if those teams are healthy.

I agree that they won't dominate the other top teams, but this does make them the favorites for the team championship I'd think. They should indeed dominate in doubles with the 2 best teams in the SEC. And of course they have Smith at #1.
Then again, we were all saying last year when OSU added Buchanan that made them overwhelming favorites, so who knows. (In fact, last year's OSU team seems very similar to this year's Vols; OSU might have been a little better.) I could see USC and UVa and maybe even UCLA being tough matchups because I think they could win the doubles point. I wouldn't want to go into singles knowing I need 4 points against that lineup.

I get it. You're joking. As many college tennis fans know 5 of the 12 players on UTK's roster are from Knoxville. And as you know the K in UTK stand for Knoxville. Tennys Sandgren who will join the team in January is from Knoxville. It's not much of a stretch that those kids from Knoxville happen to attend college in their home town.

I saw Tennessee's Super Freshman Rhyne Williams play a practice set against Roger Federer two summers ago. Obviously, this would've been while Rhyne was still in high school.

Rhyne did really well. I think the practice set score was 6-4. Federer was in practice mode, but Rhyne was crushing the ball and holding his own.

I look for big things from Rhyne this year at UT.

Tennessee looks really strong. Their depth is what's really impressive. Smith, Conkic, Fa-go, 2 Sandgrens, Brewer, and Williams. I see Tennessee, Virginia, and So. Cal. as the premier teams in the country and the top 3 in the preseason ITA rankings.

Tennessee should run the SEC this year. UGA has dropped off since their Isner/Helgeson days. They are head-heavy with Schnugg, Garrapiz, and Hunt, but the Vols should win with their depth and doubles play.

I'm a UVA fan, but a huge college tennis fan overall. I'm gonna be at the ITA Indoors in Charlottesville in February, and all I can say is, get ready for some awesome tennis.

They are gonna be sick. Brewer is #7 (maybe) and would play number 3 or higher on 99% of D1 teams today.

That is true of several teams. USC, UCLA and Virginia will have players at #7 who would play high on a lot of teams. The problem is that it does not really matter to these high-caliber teams how badly they would beat 99% of Division I opponents. It only matter what happens when they play each other, because none of them want anything less than a national title.

True. For clarity I was not saying UT is unique, just that they are very deep. I feel strongly they will be a contender for the championship this year along with the teams you mentioned. Being that I live in TN I am going to pick them now to win it all.
