Here several services have come up where old people can wear a button around their neck and press it for help. It works through the cellular network and a control center takes over, calling police/ambulance as needed. No such services in India yet, though I see a huge market for it.

Why doesn't Tush use his business degree to start a company to do this?

He has some arrangement with his neighbors in the flats that they know that when he goes to the bathroom, his front door and the bathroom door are both unlocked during that time. He also takes his cell phone and keeps it near him in the bathroom. A maid comes in every morning so that is a checkpoint. In the evenings, he keeps the door open and chats with the people who come and go.

Even then, when his abdominal pain became severe, he called me and no neighbors were available.

He is of the generation who retired before the liberalization boom started. Salaries were low and his pension is a joke. Unlike in the public sector, the pension is not inflation-adjusted. Prices have gone up 10 to 20 times since he retired.

Man,I am yet to get a business degree. But I intend to acquire a degree and do something for the society. The only concern that i have now is to get into a good college.I haven't decided the stream in which i would like to go.

    [IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG]

Lower pings are better for gaming.I am not into gaming anyway. What do you have,ADSL 2+ or FTTH? i read that ADSL2+ which is used here mostly have a technical limitation when it comes to speed.Maximum theoretical speed it can have is 24 MBPS DL.On FTTH you can get upto 100 MBPS![IMG]

What I meant was actually the total data limit. When i download i can see that I am getting my full 2 MBps, but i have a limit of 10GB before it falls over to 32 KBps. That 10 GB limit comes very fast. The other day i topped up 2 GB and that got exhausted very quickly too even though i've not been using the net.

That sounds good, altho' i am guessing that the place is safe -- all this about leaving doors open when going to bathroom.

My place has multiple padlocks and stuff (mother is very paranoid) so we can't leave father alone in case he falls. He can't and won't operate a cellphone. We also have a lot of thefts and murders of senior citizens in South Delhi -- they are easy targets.

My unc used to sometimes fall in the bathroom and fracture himself at 2 am, in winter that too, unable to get up, calling out for help but the cook would have shut his quarter doors and windows and be snuggled inside his blankets. Cook would come in at 7 am with tea and find uncle lying or sitting in bathroom in just nightclothes. This happened often. Aunt was deaf and also couldn't hear him calling. But this was about 12-15 years back before cellphones. Imagine lying shivering in the bathroom for five hours in winter, that too when you are over 90 and the body has almost no fat.

Was he descended from the original craftsmen who worked for the royal families?

There are still marble workers in Agra today whose forefathers worked on the Taj Mahal.

It is safe. There is a "watchman" who is older than my father and deaf and can hardly walk but he seems to act as a deterrent. Moreover, who will come up 3 stairs and take a chance with so many people coming and going.

    That watchman sounds frightening.

He must be having one of those huge mustaches and his forefathers must have served with the Cholas.

He is frightening because he is like a bad joke. That is, if you were told he is a watchman, you would be really disturbed because he looks like he will fall over any instant.

guys,i am done with my CAT exam..It was OK..I was only able to attempt 11 out of 60 questions(i know attempts are very less but that's the tough nature of the exam, even a guy getting 0 marks scores around 25-30 percentile).I found English section tougher than the quantitative aptitude and DI section. It has negative marking so i had to be careful in my attempts..I will be concentrating on the future exams!!

I need to channelize my inner nadal and treat my exams as federer..:)

So someone who gets 0 has 30% of the people under him? Is it due to negative marking?

Anyways, congratulations on the CAT. What is your dream place to do MBA?

You didn't prepare for CAT? I believe you could have attempted at least 20 in 2nd section considering your English that I have seen on this forum.I gave CAT on 21st Oct. QA was very easy in my slot but I messed it up (relative to my friends). My attempts were 40 out of 60 (19 QA and 21 Verbal). But still doesn't matter. I can't get a call since I have f***ed up grades and 10th-12th percentages. Anything less than 99.6 percentile and no call (from old IIMs). Will try to bell the CAT next year. :(

You are an undergraduate? I will be giving XAT too.

LOL,dude.I did prepare for CAT's ,i gave it on 10th of november.I am not concerned what other's did.I found VA section tougher than any of the internal exams that i gave(i was enrolled in IMS and i gave 10 Simcat's).I thought i would be able to do well in my english section as i have been doing reasonably well before.I am from a commerce background with no maths hence my QA section was naturally weaker but no regrets.I started my preparation from June,so i had only few months to prepare,I just tried as hard as possible..

Now i have MAT on 1st dec,SNAP on 16th dec and TISS on 22nd dec and XAT on 5th Jan.I completed my graduation this year(2013).I never really aimed for IIM,coz i knew my abilities. My aim is to get into top 50 b schools.

My marks in Graduation weren't that great, but i did reasonably well in my 10th and 12th.I scored around 72% in 10th and 80% in 12th.My graduation marks went Awol as i never really concentrated on it,I was a student of CA(IPCC,cleared CPT on the first attempt) and i used to spend 6-7 hours coaching for it back in 2009.

It snows in New Delhi? I had no idea. I haven't seen snow in 16 years in my Northern California town. But if you drive North 150 miles towards Nevada in the Sierra there is lots of snow.

Just kidding with Tushy. I does hail here occasionally, but no snow.

I loved norcal btw. I've lived in Redwood City and driven around a lot of nearby areas ... Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, of course, Highway One all the way down to Carmel or something. This was in the glorious 90's when i worked and traveled. You sure do live in a beautiful place.

I've seen it snow in NY, though, in the even more glorious '80s when i ran long distances. And in Kashmir, a place called Pahalgam.

Can you believe that I have still never visited Lake Tahoe and Yosemite?

Ah, Senti. I must agree it's a beautiful area. I worked for a while in Redwood City as a matter of fact. I've been to Lake Tahoe many times, as I have family that lives there. Just beautiful. One evening I was bored, so I drove all the way to Reno. Had a couple beers in Circus Circus, played some games, and headed back. It's beautiful over there too.

When you say you ran long distances, do you mean you were a Marathon runner? :)

Sadly I started working and quit running before I ran a marathon. But i trained about 80 to 100 miles a week including a 22 miler on Sundays in 2 hours (which is about a 2:36 pace for the marathon). I was more of a 5k/10k runner.

In a sense it is good I quit since i did manage to earn and save up a small amount (working), which i would not have as a runner since the talent just was not there.

    Yosemite was great.

I never got to see the Grand Canyon. Never saw the mid-west or north-west. Only Calif on the west coast. Every place I've been to in the US was beautiful.

Except Atlanta, lol. Always cloudy and dripping whenever I went.

Having lived in Florida and now in California, I am spoilt. That is why I vacation only in Hawaii, the only other place better than these two. I have no interest in visiting any other place, though I have been to many of them.

Where in Florida were you ? I've visited various places and worked for a couple months in Jacksonville Beach. Quite okay.

I think from my various stints Long Island also merits a mention.

    Disneyland = LA
    Disneyworld = FL

I haven't gone to any amusement park for many years now. My philosophy is that I will not pay to stand in lines. As a Croatian guy once told me during the turbulent times in the old Yugoslavia, "if I wanted to stand in line after paying, I can do that better in my own country."

Also I prefer natural surroundings, not man-made monstrosities like theme parks. Though the wilderness-themed ones are not bad.

Technically, these days you stand in a spiral sometimes.

I won't go to Disney on principles because I think Disney has corrupted society. About 90% of Disney Young Actresses end up as semi-porn peddling *****s (Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus come to mind). The Mouse is a corruptor of youth.

I much prefer the good old Mighty Mouse to Mickey "the perv" Mouse.

    Nice one about the Yugoslav.

Agree, we used to go on long weekends (JUly 4th) etc and the lines for each item were 90 mins !! But those were the young 1990's when i came with a bunch of colleagues who were doing "the American thing."

But i do love roller-coasters and those water slides which start from a great height. I'd do them today too if i could :)

You can do it at your age also unless you have heart problems or dizziness issues.

There are VIP tickets now which allow you to bypass the lines. That is the quickest way to experience everything if you are a tourist.

It is all looking at history with rose lenses.

If you read up about Walt's attitudes, you will realize how much better things are today in his company. The place would have been shut down today if the company had continued with his attitudes.

LOL nope,i still have a long way to go.I realize that more than 70% of test takers are engineers in CAT,and they have a distinct advantage. But I am satisfied with what i got.In 7 months i really worked hard,my major weakness was maths,i left maths and concentrated on the data interpretation section..I scored 74.49 percentile in the Quant-DI section..

Now i have to prepare for Group discussions, work hard on my spoken English.I need to start reading editorials.

Why spoken English? These days you can speak in any language into a smartphone and it will translate and speak it in any language you want.
