Where will Hingis be ranked after Oz? Will she have to depend on wildcards to enter further tournaments this year? It will suck for her if she has to qualify for every tournament she enters this year.

She'll be ranked around 110. She's scheduled to play Tokyo next week. I'm sure she'll get unlimited wildcards if she wants them. I expect her to be top 50 very soon, so she won't need them.

There isn't a tournament director who would not give WC to such player. Ranking is good because then she is seeded soon and doesn't need to face other highly ranked players on the first rounds.

She'll get wildcards until her ranking climbs, which it will very quickly. And she deserves them.

I was surprised to find out that Hingis was ranked 349 heading into the Australian Open. She did pretty well in a tournament and so she went from 9,999 in the world(no rank, I guess) to 349. That's pretty quick. I wonder if that's possible on the men's side.

Tommy Haas started out 2004 where Hingis was(missing all of 2003 due to injury)
After 3 events he was ranked 356.
T Johannson did the same thing in '04. After one event he was 519. After 3 events, he was 276.

It's possible, if you're that good. You get a lot of points from main tour events.

Also, remember "the luck of the draw" comes into play. Hingis *may* still get very tough draws ... which will not help her ranking quickly climb.

hell, it'll skyrocket the way the wta is set up. you get to drop the odd bad result. plus, she ain't got NO points to defend.

May be way off track but thats not a reference to a Clash song by any chance, is it?!

I think Hingis is a very good player but just don't see her winning slams again (but may well be proved wrong as I often am!)...am sure she beleives she will be at the top again very soon.
