What do you think of this practice? As malevolent as unprotected sex?

This sounds like a bad idea. Use a high to low motion to add underspin to it, and try to have little to no forward movement. Someone else said a good drop shot should bounce 6 times before it reaches the service line. You won't get this without adding slice to it.

I agree with shind, you should add some slice. How could u do that with an off center hit?

Oh, it's possible to do it on an off-center hit; it's just difficult. I'd really advise against the whole idea though becuase it's hit or miss unless you can do it consistently. There's also the risk of messing up the other strokes by consistently hitting outside the center.
