I tend to hold my racket with my fingers bunched together, and that's what I'm used to. Recently my coach told me that I should spread them out, I did, but it feels very unnatural. My season is about to start and I don't want to tinker with grips, what is the right thing to do?

If you're normal method feels comfortable, and it's not affecting your strokes adversly, or is causing injury, stay with it.

Wider spread of fingers take out the wrist equation.
    Are you wristy?
    Do you need more control?
Are your preps early enough so you don't have to wrist flick your shots?
But overall, use what works for you. Everyone is different, we are all individuals.

I have little-bitty hands too so it is somewhat uncomfortable to spread but I can see the benefits in stability and whatnot.
