When I first saw that picture, I thought it was Tommy Haas... not Robredo. I was kind of surprised by his physique. However, what is so "disgusting" about this?

Disgusting! Wow! How civilized are you **********? Not very. There is a difference between nude, naked, and disgusting. Tom is nude. If this disgust you, then I would advise maturing to the level of an adult. Your post sounds like it comes from a 2nd grader. How is this image different from many sculptures found in countless art museums around the world.
I'm assuming you are a male, and from your post, possibly a homophobe. I can only think that this is disgusting and aggrevating to you because it's giving you a stiffy. It's alright man...don't be scared.

Oh I'm straight, I just don't see what the problem is with Tommy doing a Nude photoshoot. The reason (I'm guessing) he stripped for charity is FOR CHARITY. He's doing it to help out the charity and just genuinely being a nice guy. Frankly imo (don't get mad i'm not looking to **** you off) but you're acting as though you've never seen a guy naked. Do you shower etc. at the gym/tennis/wherever.?

That's exactly what I look like! Wow, I didn't know I had that much in common with Tommy, although I bet I surpass him in one way.... (sic) :D

    kidding of course!

I think it's great. bring it on, if you got it flaunt it, if it can help someone, more the better! naked is healthy, don't know why so many americans have problems with it. (well, am. men seem to mainly have probs with guys naked but don't seem to speak up when they are too busy gawking at the hooters girls boobs while gnawing wangs, huh?) Oh, the hippocracy!

Even if it wasn't for a cancer charity, an adult should be able to handle this kind of image. Best of luck to you.

Apology accepted, even though your grammar is bad. You'll be ok.

Tommy said he was reluctant to pose at first until he learned of the reason. So he was "shocked" as well, initially. You're not alone.

What's maturity have to do with having a negative opinion of Robredo prancing around naked on Cosmopolitan magazine, especially considering how Cosmo portrays men?

Anybody not named Anna, or some version of that name, should be banned from posing, nude, half-nude, slightly nude.

To be perfectly honest, Robredo being naked, swinging a tennis racket around on a COSMO magazine doesn't exactly enhance the reputation of tennis. Think about it, some seven year old aspiring tennis player, goes shopping with mommy, sees one of his heroes stark ass naked on a girly magazine, he's going to think "Wow I'm a pansy for choosing this sport, I'm picking up something more manly, like ice skating......"

Sounds like a quote from the tennis-wing of the Moral Majority, chauvinistic and homophobic all at the same time. If you watch the 700 Club, you probably won't like the image.
There are exceptions, but tennis players are traditionally skinny, lanky dudes, especially if they haven't played many sports outside of tennis. The kid might actually look at the pic of Tom and think, hey, I'm scrawny too...maybe I can be good at tennis.

LoL I hate Pat Robertson, but yeah it's fantastic for a male tennis player to be featured naked on a magazine that peddles lip gloss, lipstick, sells tampons, maxipads and talks about inane subject matter fit for Oprah Winfrey. Really great for the Sport's image there! Just accept it as fact man, not every male adult enjoy having male tennis stars plastered half-naked on a magazine which is probably a personal bible of Paris Hilton. And no I don't think we are less "mature" for it.

If tennis stars want to show off their physique, do it on a tennis magazine, or a sports magazine. Tennis already has an unfounded reputation as a soft, country club sport, this does not help any.............

I am a guy and have no problem with the artistic photo, although it isn't anything special. However, I do have problem with Cosmopolitan and the other garbage magazines that teach young women garbage.... 3-400 pages of articles on how to look pretty and other pathetic garbage.

Yeah kind of messed up how some people in here are trying to tell others that if they dissapprove of the pic, that they must be immature, since when did naked guys swinging tennis rackets around become a right of passage to maturity?

Man, we are taught shame in this country before we learn how to talk. Some of you are so programed that your anuses are so tight you can only talk out of 'em anymore. I'm an artist by education and trade, and spent alot of my time in school in figure drawing class. So maybe I have an advantage over some of you moral majorists as to appreciating the human figure for what it can be, an interesting, beautiful thing to be appreciated visually. There is a huge difference between a nude figure and porn. I'm convinced that everyone who is disgusted by Tom's picture, sees it and immediately thinks of sex, which you learned to do at 5 years old and have yet to overcome that reaction.
Oh, and btw, tennis' popularity and "reputation" (ATP, maybe not so much WTA) is suffering so bad in this country that even controversial publicity is good publicity. As a matter of fact, controversy is possibly what tennis needs to get any attention in this country outside of it's devoted fanbase. If you thought it through from a marketing standpoint, why would you just keep marketing to the same people who are already devoted to the sport. That would be pretty dumb, right...especially if you're trying to increase exposure for your sport. So I applaud the article and image of Tommy in a magazine with such a large subscriber base and audience. Even if it is teenage girls...who do you think makes up the majority of ATP fan clubs...who do you think would be most impressed by charitable work...women, duh...it's not teenage boys or men. You saw the image of a naked man and shut your mind down. Let your mind out of the box, man.

There's nothing wrong with the naked body, irrespective of whether it is for charity.

He's fit, and even if he wasn't so what?

It's not a tacky or degrading pose.

When I was in Germany, everyone went to the sauna naked. How refreshing to be in a country where people are not repressed about their bodies.

Nobody cares if you want to buy a copy of Cosmo and appreciate "Tommy Robredo visually," whatever, knock yourself out. I think you should just respect peoples' opinion because tastes in what constitutes as art has nothing to do with maturity, and having different opinions on a male tennis star on a tart magazine doesn't make one immature. You're also missing the fact that Cosmo searched out Tommy Robredo, and the ladies in here mention who for the next spread? Marat Safin? Roddick? Cosmo is not going to put a naked Ivo Karlovich on there, and Elle is not going to search out Radek Stephanek to take his clothes off for charity, just as Maxim is not going to invite Kuznetsova to prance around naked on their next issue. So obviously it's sexualized and Cosmo intended it to be sexualized by their choice of tennis stars. Artistic expression and sexualiziation are obviously blended together in Cosmo, or else they would have been just as fine with a naked Dominic Hrbaty as a naked Tommy Robredo. I don't why you deny that, the industry is all about that.

As far as marketing, I can see where it might attract females to the sport, however how I can see how it would definately turn males from the sport. This country is already full of males who think that just because you don't dunk a ball or tackle somebody, that tennis must be a wussy sport. This is not going to change their minds any. So great, we should expect an injection of Britney Spears clones at the U.S open wildly cheering for Tommy?

I've been to art school and spent a lot of time learning the human figure as well. It's a very powerful thing, learning the different anatomys of male and female figures and training oneself to render them with a mere pencil. I, however, am not attacking any "moral majorists" for their opinion. So someone has a different view of things from what I think. It's like that everyday, and it's been that way for a while.
Like I previously stated, Tommy was against taking the pic as well, before learning what it was all about. Would you say he has now gone from part of the "moral majorists" to a "mature" person? That's ridiculous.
Relax. There are quite a lot people who share your thoughts exactly, and there will always be someone who doesn't. It's normal.

I'm involved in a debate here. Art school at Liberty College probably isn't similar to what I experienced (inflamatory statement obviously designed to get a rise out of you in a good-hearted manner, enjoy). These message boards are for communication, giving and recieving of information, and debate. If you're not able to handle the picture, then I guess you're not gonna be able to handle the debate, either.

Yes!!! He has evolved. (Another issue a 700 Clubber would have a hard time with). He probably heard nude, and was scared or shameful his junk might be involved. Then he heard how he was actually going to be posed, then got over it in a mature fashion.

Various definitions of mature, from dictionary:
    1. acting or seeming like an adult, showing mental, emotional, or physical characteristics that are typical of a fully developed adult person.
    2. experienced, showing qualities gained by development and experience.
    3. adult, made up of or suitable only for adults.
    4. involving serious thought, involving or reached by a period of serious thought.

I'm getting at the point that this group can't get over something they were taught at the age of 5. Shame! If there is nudity in a movie, what is the warning...for mature audiences only. Therefore inappropriate for those of you unable to overcome your issues of shame, pressumable youngsters...not adults. Cosmo, in theory, is a woman's magazine. If Tommy was shown open-legged, flaunting his "sex" organ to everyone, then sure, I'd say that was inappropriate...but, the way he is photograped is quite tasteful. A mature person (see definitions above) should be able to digest it without triggering ideas of sex, shame, or feelings of disgust.

Really, I realize I'm banging my head against a wall, especially if you don't let your wife/girlfriend display her ankles in public. I'll probably read responses to this post, enjoy whether for or against, but not respond...my head is soar. I do enjoy when thing become socially relevant on these boards...not just about tennis.

You won't get a rise out of me, I don't have a problem with the photo or your belief, and I don't have a problem with the people who don't like the photo. But understand, not everyone is going to fall in love with your (or my) opinion. The fact that you don't understand the point I'm trying to get across is proof of this amazing phenomenon.
Egocentrism is something we all (should, or should have) outgrow(n) way before adolescence. That's part of, well, maturity.

You are banging your head against a wall, because it's sound logic to realize that accepting nudity or not, have nothing to do with real maturity. A thoroughly immature person can look at that picture and find it tasteful, a mature person can look at that picture and it's possible effects and find it distasteful. An immature person would have attacked you for your pacticular views on the subject.

So far, people who didn't approve of Tommy's pic on Cosmo, have been called, immature, accused of having "issues", card carrying members of right wing Christian Extremists groups, yah you positively ooze maturity...:-?

In front of my computer, obviously
This post is quite funny to me. For one thing, Tommy is not on the cover of Cosmo, he's inside. Perhaps Cosmo is to women what FHM is to men, and surely you would post EXACTLY the same diatribe if Maria Kirilenko were to be pictured there, no?

I agree. Most of the 'glamour' mags are just shills for the cosmetics companies. There is almost nothing worthwhile in them.

Pretty much, along with the photographer who captured this picture.

By the way, Tommy's problem with this photo isn't that it was nude, it was that he is incredibly shy and it was a difficult process for him.
