can anyone anyone take a shot in he qualifying rounds? is their a entry fee? when and where?
To get direct entry into US Open qualifying, you have to be ranked in the top 250 or so or get a wildcard. The only path you have without qualifications is to go through the US Open Qualifying series if the USTA does that again next summer. This summer there was one open qualifying tournament in each section. The entry fee was like $130. Each of the winners of the sectional tournaments then moved on to a national tournament in Atlanta. The winner of that tournament won a spot in the Open qualifying draw.
So, basically, no, you cannot just "take a shot" at the US Open qualifying. You have to go through this sectional tournament process and win 8-10 matches in 2 tournaments to get the one public spot available.
