I don't see this as Wozniacki or Rios type controversial situation, Fed won Wimbledon to get back to #1, there's a world of difference.

I think there are at least 17 (and counting) good reasons not to confuse Federer with Wozniacki or Rios... ;)

Personally I think it is ridiculous that the holder of two of the four slams and who reached the final in one and the semi in the other in the last 12 months is not the number one.

Federer simply is not the best player in the world.

So those 8 titles, including wimby since last year's USO make no matter?

    1 slam, 1 wtf, 3 masters, and 2 500s

    Peanuts!

ETA: hmmmm, I forgot a title...is basel 250 or 500? Either way, I either omitted basel or
    Rotterdam but....you get the picture.

Right but he still would have gotten there in the same fashion despite his glorious past, this way feels much more appropriate, a #1 who doesn't hold a slam title is merely a paper #1 as far as I'm concerned.

So let's just ignore the all the Masters (1000), YEC and all the other matches that Feder has won since the last USO. Is you look at his overall record for the year, Federer has a better record. There is more to the ranking system than just 2 slam wins. The body of work over the year has to count for something.

You should not lose to much sleep over this. Roger is only 75 points ahead of Novak. If Novak performs beter than Roger in the upcoming weeks, he should be able to regain the #1 spot.

Yeah, why are those other tournaments even worth points? Slams are the only thing that matter.

It could even be argued that Wimbledon points shouldn't even be counted this year, because of the roof.

So the points that really should count are of course Roland Garros, and for the HC slams, I would suggest not counting the points for the winner but doubling those for the finalist, as they are not played on red HC.

This, I think, would give a much better picture of the Tour at the moment...

The guy you are implying is the best player in the world was just beaten soundly by the number #1 ranked player in the world. Go plug that into your logic machine.
