Looking at Federer's years from 2008-2011, his win/loss record was 256-52 (83.12%)
Looking at Federer's years from 2012-2015, his win/loss record was 252-52 (82.89%).

Now obviously 2008-2011, he won 4 Grand Slams, compared to just 1 from 2012-2015, but Federer's consistency in the last 4 years remains remarkable.

On a deeper analysis,
From 2008-2011, Federer won 17 titles, from 30 finals. He won 2 Year End Titles and 4 Masters Series Titles. He reached another 5 Masters Series finals.
From 2012-2015, Federer won 18 titles, from 35 finals. He won 6 Masters Series Titles. He reached 3 Year End Finals and and another 6 Masters Series finals.

Just goes to show how much harder it is to win a major or a WTF than a Masters title.

Two factors which i can think of, his skill level, generally better than most players, and in his words maybe love for the game to keep him going mentally. After being on tour for many years you tend to lose interest, happened to John in 1986 when he took the hiatus but never reached the same level again, but John's love for the game is unparalleled, he still plays. It happened to Borg, left tennis completely, happened to Pete, it took great amount of mental effort to get his last slam. As long his desire is there, he will have good results, after all there are not many players who can beat him.

His serve, experience, and aura are all big factors for his success.
He has outlived Rafa despite the age difference. Unfortunately for him, Novak turns out to be as good as Rafa. Novak's as-good-as-FH BH is the key for him to beat Fed.

It's probably partly that, as he became less successful in Slams, he started putting more effort into Masters series events (and playing more 250s and 500s). In the middle years of his career, he dialed in quite a few MS events. I think that's why Murray at one stage had such a good head-to-head record against him.
