How do you manage your time

    Curious how people manage/slot time for a day or week relating to various activities such as work, tennis, exercise etc.
    To explain with one example, I started on tennis because I like sports first, and as an exercise routine second. However, its clear now that there's additional conditioning required to support tennis. This is where time management comes into the picture for regular folks that work, travel, other obligations, etc and then carve out time for tennis play and exercise.

    Of course, part of it is having a lot of things to do, and part of it is procrastination and distractions. So when everything spills over into everything else then time management gets complex.
    Maybe the wrong forum, but wanted to put this out there and see if I get some thoughts and suggestions, maybe some folks have a system worked out.. Thanks.

    When i am working, i play twice a week during the weekend. I always carry my gear when i am traveling on business/pleasure and try and get a hotel with a court and book a slot with a practice partner.

    I keep my food intake sensible. I avoid grains and sugar. Avoiding junk makes a big difference in terms of energy levels, stress avoidance, quality sleep, etc and these affect pretty much everything else you do.

    I am not too hung up if i cannot visit the gym. I will squeeze in push ups, squats wherever i am. Takes no more than 10-15 minutes to get a quality body weight work out (burpees, push ups, squats, sit ups). For example, if you are in office and have 10-15 min free, instead of chatting up drivel with a colleague, just sneak into an empty conference room and knock-out 50 push ups. Same if you are in an airport lounge and twiddling your thumbs - push ups or squats are better than aimlessly browsing a blackberry or iphone.

    Try to find a routine that works.

    I workout at the same time every morning for ~1 hour. I tend to play tennis at the same times each week as well. And so on for everything else I want to get into my day / week.

    If I miss a workout because my schedule changes a bit, doesn't bother me at all. As long as you are "mostly consistent" it works fine.

    I can't do what OTMput does. Just utilize any random free time to do pushups, etc. I need structure. Everyone is different.

    No problem for me. I usually leave the office around 3:30 to arrive at the tennis club at 4:00. I can play whenever I want, each afternoon. So it sums up to about 20-30 hours/week, including weekend. The wife plays tennis, too, so we usually meet at the club and have dinner there after tennis, or drive to a restaurant on our way home.

    I strive to play tennis Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I'll do my best to lift weights on Monday and then hopefully Wednesday or Friday. The Wednesday/Friday are always iffy due to work commitments and general laziness.

    I work from home and have very flexible hours. Usually do bodypump Mondays or Wednesdays and okay when ever I can always making sure to rest at least 2 days.

    My main problem is when I am traveling because that reduce my time a lot. I do not take my racquets with me anymore, instead I have a set if rubbers and take my running shoes, also always ask for a high floor and use the stairs as much as I can.

    That does add to the problem, because you can do whatever you want and it's easy to get distracted :oops: .
    That's the key really, to focus on stuff during its scheduled time and get it done. Do you make any rules (for yourself) while you are working such as no distractions like browsing, talking to colleagues/others, calls etc, as well as better time management like limiting even work emails etc.
    I have already cut down on watching tv (except for long tennis matches), probably should throw the smartphone out as well as OTMPut points out no point aimlessly browsing/texting on it.

    Right now after a recent divorce and losing my job & home....I spend 99% of the day stressed to the max. Looking for a job is all consuming.

    I'm rubbish with time management, so I rely on routines and doing the same things at the same time each week. If I break that routine I get stressed and shut down in some ways.

    Not being flexible can make finding time to fit in sports hard, but it is what it is I guess.

    I make sure to get at least 30 minutes of cardio every day besides playing 3 times a week. The gym gets a curious look from me twice a week .I try to squeeze some pushups and situps in here and there , like when waiting in line at the grocery store or when someone holds a boring prestentation at work.

    And I thought I had it good. This sounds like a fantasy existence. I assume you don't have kids?

    My problem is finding people to play with when court time is available so I play when I can and when I can't play, then I run, lift, do interval training, stretch, etc. We've had rain here starting Friday and it's supposed to continue until this Friday so we're limited to indoors when courts aren't already booked up. I'm also working through a knee injury so doing the other stuff is fine - I can do one-hour practice sessions but can't play matches.

    Most weekdays, g/f gives me a list of to do's. When she goes to off to work around 9, I look at the weather and check how I feel, and decide if I should spend 4 hours on the internet, when to go windsurfing, what are the chances of playing tennis AND windsurfing, and try to work about 1.5 hours a day somewhere in the house.
    I seldom fullfill her expectations, but mine are doing just fine.

    Yeah, she's a semi hottie who's 22 years my junior, so we get in "disagreements" all the time on the best course of action during my remaining days.
    I DO cater to her wishes on weekends by going road biking to an expensive brunch, then shopping (her stuff), and finally windsurfing in the afternoons.
    What more can a girl want in life?

    I ride my bicycle to work mon-fri to keep my legs strong. I coach tennis mon and tue after work. Wednesday night is family night; my wife and I spend time with our son. Thursday and Friday nights after work I play tennis with Carlos and Pedro...Saturday morning, noon and night is date time. My wife and I spend the whole day and night together....we just enjoy life together. Sunday after church I vacuum, clean the toilets, and dust...then I play tennis Sunday afternoon with any and all who want to! No time for the gym...lol! I do want to find a tennis league and play Thursday or Friday in a flex league or any other league in Orlando that operates on Thu or Fri.....Life is good!

    When I was playing loads of tennis, I would leave the house dressed for work, do a few hours, and then slip out to the tennis club, change and play a bit of tennis. You save way more time if you just bring the extra clothes and equipment (especially if you're trying to hide from somebody the frequency of your tennis/exercise breaks!!!)

    I have a lot of time to play simply because I don't sleep that much. I work a lot of the time after my school is out for the day, and now that it is summer I have loads of free time at night. :p I can go practice for a few hours at the local courts with lights from around 9/10-1am get home at 2am, sleep until 7:30 and do the routine as much as I like.

    My ladyfriend is usually in bed by 10 so she doesn't mind! ;)

    Are these some kind of reserved or club courts? Down here the court lights shut off automatically at around 11 p.m. The playing till 1 a.m would be perfect with me, I am totally a night person.
