Well, with Wimbledon just 8 days away and Nadal being pretty impressive on grass at Queens, considering his past form, how far do you all think he will get?

If he plays 4th round, but it is not even certain he is playing Wimbledon, in fact he probably wont being injured only 10 days before the event. It is unlikely he will even play so this poll really shouldnt be up until it is confirmed he will be, when it is looking like he wont. If he does 4th round I am guessing.

Like I said it looks like he wont even play Wimbledon probably, so I dont know why this poll is up anyway. 2 out of 8 voting for Champion is bogus though.

Poll is up to see how far people think Nadal could get if he played Wimbledon this year - regardless of whether or not he will!

Have to agree - can't see him being champion this year - he has a long way to go before he gets anywhere near there!

30% say he'll be the champion so far, I had to laugh for a bit after seeing that.

Yeah it's a loaded question depending on the draw. I'd say out in 2nd round.

My guess is 4th Round or Quarters.

Has anyone reported that he may actually pull out? That would be great for Roddick, but I'd def. like to see how he'd do this year.

If he does pull out and Roddick gets the 2 seed again we'll be hearing about the conspiracy theories from Barry and Chadwixx...again.

Well Nalbandian or Ljubicic, both ranked over Roddick, have not even reached the quarters of Wimbledon since his shock final in 2002, so I would have no problem with Roddick as #2 seed if Nadal pulls out, heck I would have no problem with it even if Nadal played. I dont think he will reach the final this year, but his ranking is still high enough, and recent years record good enough to warrant that. Probably next year he wont be the #2 seed since he will be ranked even lower, or the same as now, and wont have as good of grass results this year as past years.

I would say QF. If the courts get worn down pretty good, no rain and they get hard you might see a final. But if its soggy and slippery he may lose earlier.

    LOL.

Let me guess: "Well, the USTA clearly must have snuck into Nadal's room at night while he was sleeping and sabotaged his left shoulder muscles. It's the only way they could get their little over-hyped whiny baby Rod-DICK into the finals at Wimbly."

"P.S. They should seed fairly. How many top 10 players has Roddick beaten in the past 3000 years? Hmmm?"

Look, I suddenly find myself rooting for the guy this year (at least on this surface). But this just ain't realistic.

What makes you think he can make it to the finals so convincingly?

not with those long, loopy strokes and defensive playing style and a creampuff serve. he'd be lucky to get to the 4th round, even with a good draw.

clay season is over. thank god i dont have to see this guy late in the draw of anything til dirt season starts again next year.

Don't know why you would think Nadal is going to pull out, or seem so certain he won't play. He even said he will be fine. I think the fact he pulled out of Queens was more of a precaution so he can play Wimbledon. He went to queen's, proved he can play on grass, and that was enough for him. There was no point in RISKING injury. But he will be playing Wimbledon, that is obvious.

Nadal has about as much chance of making the quarterfinals or better in Wimbledon as Roddick does of making the Finals in the French Open.

Obviously you didn't catch the Queens tournament then. And obviously you have a subjective view being a Federer worshipper and a Nadal hater, but if took a set off Hewitt and was playing pretty well, even through injury (Hewitt won Queens), then obviously he has a better chance than Roddick making the finals of the French. What an idiotic comparison huh? Roddick is 23 and has been playing matches on clay for years now. Nadal has only had the opportunity to play 8 or 9 matches on grass in his whole career (and that spans 3 seasons). Obviously, he is just developing his grass court tactics.

Can always count on you making a splash with your negative posts about Nadal and your hype of Federer (yes, we already know he is good and the favorite for Wimbledon, and not to compare head to heads, because Blake owns Nadal, yada yada yada..)

    dh003i = snooze fest

Yeah, Nadal just has not played enough grass matches yet.
As described in other thread, grass courts are practically
hard courts covered with grass, much like bouces and
    ball speed of hard courts.

But, as Nadal said of himself, he is not comfortable with
moving on grass yet. Howerver, a quarter-final is not
    impossible, IMHO.

I think you will see them speed up grass and other surfaces again soon. It is crazy how slow they all have become and they wont accept that much longer.

Ok, i'm no statistics guru, I mean i did study it at uni but that was a while ago now...

But going on my "rough" memory, one can sometimes exclude extreme results at the 'top or tail' of a sample, excluding them as 'outliers' that are unlikely or insignificant. I guess it's sort-of like excluding the highest and lowest score in diving :). Looking at the current votes....

    Round 1 3 6.82%
    Round 2 7 15.91%
    Round 3 10 22.73%
    Round 4 11 25.00%
    Quarters 9 20.45%
    Semis 0 0%
    Runner-up 1 2.27%
    Champion! 3 6.82%

....we could probably slice off the 9% at the extreme 'tail' - the votes for r/up & champ (made easier to do given the 0 for the semis) :). Even if we don't slice, over 90% of people thinking that round 1 - quarters is likely. Sounds about right, really! Yay for the boards ;)

Well looks like Nadal WILL be playing Wimbledon - the reason he pulled out of Queens was because he didnt want to damage his shoulder any more - he would rather pull out of Queens and be certain of playing Wimbledon than damage his shoulder at Queens and miss the grand slam!

This poll is meaningless. It all depends on the draw. Yes, Nadal looked pretty good at Queen's Club last week but he had to quit during his match with Hewitt. His left shoulder is a big question. Without seeing his side of the draw, I really can't see him winning more than 3 matches with his bad shoulder.

The poll isnt meaningless - your opinion is that he won't get any further than the 3rd round this year... that is what this poll is about - finding out how far you think Nadal will get at Wimbledon this year...

nadal will not be the #2 seed no matter what. Wimby seeds by grass court results over the last year, and Roddick was finalist at Wimby last year and won Queens club in 05, and was semifinalist at Queens this year... Nadal could be seeded lower than 5...

on topic now, i believe he could make the 3rd round, but we gotta wait till Friday for the draw...

Wimbledon seeds on current ranking plus last year's grass points plus 75% of the previous year's best grass result (although this is subject to change). Even though Roddick has reached the last two finals at the AELTC, Nadal is so far ahead of Roddick in the normal rankings that it's not enough to close the gap: Nadal will be seeded second.

In fact, Roddick only just passed Nalbandian for number three seed (had he lost to Gonzalez in the quarters at Queen's, he would have had to settle for fourth, not that it makes much difference).

Wow, you must not know a lot about tennis. Nadal will be the #2 seed hands down, and if Wimbledon doesn't, there will be a bigger controversey than the Hewitt seeding last year by far.
