I got to test out my serve speed and hit a top speed of 104 mph. I average in the 90's.

How fast do you guys serve? Please post only serves that went in of course.

    Mine are fast enough

Honestly I have no idea, but I think I can average in the 90s on my first serve.

I see that we're fellow Montrealers, where do you play?

I do the rounds of all the courts. I like nautilus on cote de liesse because they have clay courts. Jarry is good too but pricy. How about you?

averaging between 115-120 on first serves last night. ( was ripping them, and they were going in, so lucky me, if i could only keep it consistant!!)

I've recently been clocked at 119 MPH. I would say that I average in the mid to upper 90's for the first serve, and mid to upper 80's for my second serve.

I could crank it up in the 100's throughout a match, but I do not really find it necessary as I like hitting with lots of topspin and slice, and I am sure my first service percentage would suffer if I started trying to bomb every serve in.

120 is pretty hard for consistantly hitting first serves...I'm not sure I buy that...I could be wrong, how good are you though?

yeah, i know, that's why i was pleasantly surprised to find that i serve that big. i mean i knew i was ripping them pretty good, but hey, 120 aint too shabby at all. i can rip it that hard all day, last night was one of those days when they were all going in, and trust me, everyday ain't like that! but i was was a pitcher for years, so my mechanics carried over to tennis from that, so my serve has always been pretty big and natural for me, even though i've only been playing three years.

The windspeed (as long as it's blowing the same way I'm serving) plus 17 mph.

I'm a 4.5 player and my serve is probably 75 - 85 mph (but I prefer to list it in metric because it sounds faster!). But seriously, I had this tennis father who claimed his daughter was serving 95 mph +. Uh, really. I played her and it was 70-75. I think people tend to overestimate their speed. I also think as a pure number it doesn't mean much, if you can't move it around the box or vary the type (flat, topspin etc,), then you are like a baseball pitcher who just throws fastballs all day - not effective - unless you have a bad haircut and your name is Andy.

I agree in that people do overestimate their serve speeds. A good radar properly maintained is important as is the fact that the serves should be in. I played a whole match on the court with the radar guns last night and my serves were consistently in the 90's, although in practice I can hit about 104 since I'm more loose and don't care about placement. Another thing about my game is that my 2nd serve is faster than my 1st. My opponents tell me this all the time and the radar proved it last night.
