How long before playing against self rated players count for your rating?

    Hi all,

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but I did a quick search and couldn't find much (hard to know what to search for). I played against a self rated player today, and I was wondering if it would count toward my dynamic rating. He had played 5 singles matches before we played.

    Thanks!

It depends. Normally, a self-rated player will have a dynamic rating after 5 matches (I think many believe it takes 3 matches) and your match against them would count towards your rating. However, if some or all of their matches were played against self-rated players who themselves hadn't played enough matches, they may not have generated a dynamic rating yet and your match against them won't generate a match rating for you.

Schmke provided a nice synopsis of our (TT) collective understanding of the system. However, the USTA keeps these things very close to the vest and very little official information is ever available to the general public.

a self rated player will receive a dynamic rating after 3 or 4 matches of play against players that have dynamic ratings. in leagues/levels where there are a very large percentage of players all self rated the coordinator can assign ratings to get things started. ratings usually will be assigned at the mid level.

Got a question: if you self rate and play both tournaments and league play at that level but win a lot of 6-0 style games, will you get bumped mid season or will they wait??????

Your league matches can cause you to get DQ'd and bumped mid season. Tournament matches are irrelevant until year-end ratings are calculated, and only in sections that have elected to include tournament matches in their NTRP calculations.
