I don't care how fast his service is or whether he holds the record. Serving obviously doesn't win a match entirely. I want Andy to improve his H2H against Roger.

Donald Young will win the US Open with a 170mph ace.

There are five guys not named Roddick who can serve in the 150 mph range:

    Roddick at 155
    **************
    Guccione at 154
    Karlovic at 153
    Dent at 153
    Isner at 151
    Lopez at 150

I don't see Feli Lopez hitting another 150, and I don't think Dent's shoulder can stand that kind of heat anymore.

I'd say Karlovic or Isner. Karlovic apparently switched to a Babolat a month ago... and perhaps that'll give him those extra 2 mph to shatter A-Rod's record.

    2005, I believe. I should look it up. He clocked a 248 km/h serve.

If i remember right, the balls they use now are heavier than back when he hit 155. I don't think it'll ever be broken because they will continue to use heavier balls to slow the game down.

put the crack pipe away dude.
The ball used to hit the 155mph serve was the WILSON "U.S. Open Extra Duty" ball.

Queens & Davis Cup are, not coincidently, the only events on tour that use a different radar gun(getronic?)
you can't consider these legit records when the players themselves(Roddick included) joke about the radar gun readings at these events. Everyone is clocked 5-10 mph more at these events.

Didn't Agassi hit 135 at Queens one year?

Actually the babolat he is using right now is lot less powerful compared to the head fxp instinct he use to use.

I think Karlovic definitely has that opportunity. Roddick also has the opportunity to break his own record. Gucionne and Isner are pretty young still AFAIK so both are definitely capable perhaps as well.

Well, at least, Ivo hit his 153 mph at Nottingham ;)

And yeah, Davis Cup and Queens both use Getronics guns. I couldn't say if those guns are jacked up, or simply plain more accurate.

I think it's quite unique what Roddick did/does, i mean he's a big guy but not very big, Karlovic, Isner, Guccione, these are GIANTS compared to Andy and still he hits harder, exceptional...

ps: theoretically these giants should hit harder, not Andy.

I think theoretically anybody can generate a FAST serve regardless of height, but the taller you are, the more options for placement you have to put your serve. But I find it pretty outstanding that an averaged height Roddick and produce such speed AND get it in with his height- the window for that is fairly small.

Andy's racquet head speed on the serve is just amazing. That's the key to his serve, despite his shorter height.

Since you asked for my opinion, it will be atleast 3-4 yrs. How do i know? because thats when i will turn Pro and will start hitting the serves in the speed our TW posters want.

Jokes aside (assuming above is a joke),i think it will be the next wave of players that will beat that record.

Some things should be emphasized for those who wonder why Roddick is serving faster than guys 5+ inches taller.

this is not Andy in the photo, but a screen shot off a tennis iPod clip ...

I feel a bit sad that as hard as Andy has worked that he hasn't done better. But bully for him for winning US Open.

Roddick may not be as tall as the others, but let us not forget that his racket is longer.
