Winston-Salem 3.5. I want to know how many of you guys from Winston think the tennis around here sucks. All I see are ladders and leagues which are OK but it would be nice to have a tourny or 2 each year here in Winston.

    Visiting in Charlotte

    ^Hey Zac. How've you been?

Everyone in Charlotte! I'm still staying in Charlotte (south Charlotte) a bunch and will be in for a couple of weeks. I'm 4.0 and like to play singles or dubs, whatever. If anyone wants to play, please email me! I usually play in G-boro, but haven't in a while and need some court time! angoby at yahoo dot com

I'm considering retiring to the Charlotte area. I'm a USTA rated 4.0 that is closer to a 3.5, my husband is a 3.0, and we are looking for a club that has lots of daytime social play. I can also play leagues if I find friends playing on teams. Any suggestions for clubs?

I used to live in Rock Hill SC and played a lot in Charlotte. The two nicest clubs in south Charlotte are Old Providence and Weddington. Multiple clay courts there there at both with tons of participation. http://www.oprctennis.com/ or http://www.wsrc.us/tennis.html

In Rock Hill, you'd save a ton on property taxes (1/3 vs CLT) and on tennis costs. The RH Tennis Center is run by the city, but is only hard court. You can join as a family for like 300/year and that covers all court fees and ball machine rental for the year. Rock Hill is a great town right on the SC/NC border 3 exits south of CLT. It'd be worth investigating.

Should you end up in Boone, check out the Deer Valley racquet club there. Good bunch of guys who play a lot of tennis---adult leagues as well as seniors. They typically play in our Hickory leagues.

I have a few times, but I'm part of a group that has played together for years out of JC Park in Hickory, and just like the freedom on public parks tennis. Nothing against a good country club tennis program, but I grew up in public parks tennis and I feel at home there. Got a strong bunch of players there too, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

I sometimes hit at Jaycee Park, as well. I grew up a block away from the Foundation Center (now the Y), and started lessons as a kid under Ms. Kim in the 70's. Later, I helped teach some of her intermediates. Got hooked on the clay private clubs offer when I graduated from college and moved to Charlotte. Transferred my membership to LHCC when I moved back a few years ago. Let me know if you ever want to hit...strong 4.0's are scarce our small community.

Never been there, but one of my favorite folks in tennis lives up yonder - Doug Eller. Great, fun guy.

Doug is a great guy...have known him since I was a kid. Humbling to watch him move around the court, and an effortless one-handed backhand. I only question his choice in pro football teams...Cleveland Browns???????

I'll be in Chapel Hill the week of June 19-22. Will anyone be around and interested in a hit? I'm a solid 3.5W but often play against 3.0s and 4.0s of both genders. Will gladly pay/split any guest/court fees.

Have been to Chapel Hill Tennis Club but my sister lives closer to Hollow Rock. Regardless, I'd trek around but don't know where any other courts are.

    Cheers!

I also live in chapel hill and some advice if you do not have any memberships to any club is to either go to cedar falls or the Chapel Hill High Courts as they are nice quality and are free to boot.

When I last traveled to Greensboro for work, I played at the Asheboro city courts (about 20 minutes south of Greensboro on rt 220). They have a group of men meet up and play on Wednesday evenings around 5 p.m. I think. I would rate most of them at 3.5 though.

That was four years ago but I did ask the one gentleman (a co-worker at our plant in Asheboro) last summer if they still play and he said yes.

    Hi,
If you're looking for singles or mixed doubles, I can set up a game for you. I'm a member at CHTC, as well as a group that plays out of Cary Tennis Park (one of the finest public facilities in the country). Just get in touch with me through my profile email and I'll be happy to set you up with the type of match you're seeking.

    Enjoy your visit!

I will be in the Cary/Raleigh area between July 4th - 14th visiting the in-laws. If anyone is interested or can point me to a group that hits regularly, please let me know via my profile email. I would guess I'm between a 4.0 - 4.5. However, I'm just looking to get some exercise and willing to hit with all levels, lower or higher. Prefer early mornings or late evenings.

    Thanks,

    10
