The amounts must be floating around somewhere?

Does anyone know how much the old Lendl McEnroe exhibitions made them?

I recall Mac turned down $1 mill to play an exo in South Africa when he was #1. So you can imagine how much he & Borg were getting to play each other in the 80s.

Exos were a big deal in the 70s/80s, many top players would skip the AO to play them.

Tourna or Wilson Pro, or do they each get the appropriate one respectively?

I would have thought, personally, they'd at least get a free commemorative t-shirt.

I do know that Sampras mentioned in an earlier interview that Federer was making more than he was. I don't know the amount but I'd guess $5 million is too high.

    That's what I thought.

How about $2 million Federer, $1 million Sampras?

I reckon Sampras would get more money cause he's the one that'll be losing the matches. Like to cover for the humiliation of a (probable) 3-0 washover.

Federer makes a million. Sampras gets free noodles and a free bottle of Rogaine, though he is instructed to supply his own Minoxidil.

Take it easy on the guy!

He's got more hair on his back than a wooly mammoth.

Seriously, Federer has to take it easy because if he beats up Sampras too much, nobody is going to want to watch. He's biting the hand that's feeding him. Not a good thing.

No charity? I would've thought they were partly (at least) playng for some kind of charity or good cause..... that should be the case, dont ya think?

I agree, but with a charity event, it would have to be all or nothing. Charities would not be comfortable with a 'partial' scenario, understandably so.

One would think both Fed & Pete have enough money and could have easily done this entirely for charity, but evidently 'enough' is a different amount for different people.

If they did it for charity then, there would be a legitamate excuse if you lose.

Granted there still is many excuses Fed can come up with, but this is one less.

Like I said before, Fed's smart, he knows not to to bite the hand that's feeding him.

If he keeps letting Sampras win he can still make money playing Sampras 5 years from now.

The guy is as astute as Don King.

You guys know that Sampras won the third exhibition match? I'm sure they either payed Roger more to take it easy, and let Pete win so there will be something to watchbecause there is no way Pete could beat Roger if Roger tries really hard. Absolutely NO WAY!!!!!!!

Well, I hope you watched the match. When Sampras serves the way he did on that third match, there's really nothing anyone could do to break his serve. You can bring in the best returner ever in history, and Sampras would still hold his serve.

And anything can happen in the tie-breaks.

I can understand how players could get paid a million if the matches were broadcast on TV, but there are many exos that are not broadcast. In which case, the ticket sales are pretty much the major source of income, and I don't think anyone could afford to pay these pros that much money.

Maybe one or both of them gives generously to charities each year from their total earnings, exos and otherwise. Or, maybe one of them decided to give his money from the exos to charity, but decided not to publicize it for fear of making the other guy-who chose not to give his exo earnings to charity-look miserly and mean-spirited. From what little we know, it's difficult to determine what either person does with his earnings.

Sampras is a great server, but that was an exceptional serving set for him as well. no one can serve that way consistently. So to see if one could break his serve, take a great returner on a great return game. take Agassi, for example. he stood inside the baseline and actually tried to guess where the server was serving to. so, if he guessed correctly, he could smack it for a winner. If Agassi was having a great return game and was guessing correctly, I'm sure he could have broken pete's serve. problem is, pete's serve was very well disguised and frustrated agassi. But on a great day, Agassi was more than capable of breaking pete's serve.
