Should tennis shoes fit tight, or a bit loose and must be some space between the biggest toe and the end of the shoes?

usually half an inch. If you can't do that then snugger is better than big. Big = losing toe nails.

    thanks
I thought losing toe nails could happen when it's too snug.

I use my thumb, press straight down on the tip of the shoe and make sure I don't hit the toe and it's good.

i work at a sports store, we ghet taught to make sure its a thumb width, however its just a preference, i like more snug fitting. you dont want to hit the end with your toe. but is the shoe is fitting good, then you shouldnt slide around, and then wont hit the end of the shoe even if its a snug fit.

My rule of thumb(width): It should be about a thumb width (give or take slightly) between your toe and the end of the shoe. If you have a fat thumb maybe slightly less, but definitely not more.

I always suggest to most people that going smaller is better. As small as you can take and still play comfortably is best. You would think that would be worse for toenails but it's actually better.
