How many have you strung so far without it slipping without cleaning it?

Like 22 frames. I ask because I see gunk where you wrap the string. Also, how do I take it apart.

You may be able to clean it without taking it apart. Try using a pipe cleaner between the grippers.

I would clean it if you can see residue.

Crap need pipe cleaners. Should I soak the pipe cleaner in isopropyl.

An old tooth brush (or a new one for that matter they are pretty inexpensive) dipped in Isopropyl should be able to reach into the gripper without having to take it apart.

If that is not successful, remove the screws holding the lower/fixed half of the gripper jaw so you don't have to mess with the spring in the upper half.

Then you can clean both halves pretty easily.

Is that just the three hex nuts? And I won't have to worry about the springs?

yes, as long as you remove the bottom half that is fixed.
