Can you feel the magic in the air? Wozzer for the win. This has got 2009 written all over it. Kim was the feel-good story; this year is Woz's turn; her time not to be the bridesmaid. These things write themselves. Gives Maria her comeuppance (Maria of three fans in the continental United States); feel good story after being dumped by Rory; he goes on a tear; she'll win her first slam--perfect symmetry.

Assuming Serena doesn't trip up on the way to the final (which wouldn't surprise me at all; I could even see Vika upsetting her), the last person she's going to won't to see on the other side of the net is an in-form, highly motivated Woz. I haven't been sold on Serena's fitness for five years, and I predict Woz is going to put in a classic performance in a three set cracker that she takes 7-5 in the third.

Murray over Nole in four. Haven't we learned anything over the years? One match's dominance doesn't always bleed into the next. This is a horrible draw for Nole--getting a two time slam winner in the quarters. Nole's looked great against challenger level players and the "walking dead" i.e. American tennis players, but I predicted Nole would lose in the quarters even before the draw came out, and here's where he exits. Murray's semi is a trap match, and he'll lose to Milos or Kei to create one of the most laughable finals in recent memory as Federer's opponent will scrape out at best six games against him.

Yes, Federer will zip through Monfils (I was extremely bullish on Dimi six months ago--not much now), or in the off chance Dimi beats Gael, Federer will show the world that he does every single thing on the tennis court demonstrably better than Grigor, save Grigor might move a little better.

Why not Thiem vs Fed in the semis. The other guys while all great professionals are all known crap quantities at the business end of slams, so why not the young Austrian. And should it be him, he will get schooled miserably by Fed.

P.S. I'm just having a bit of fun. Please don't get you panties in a bunch Nole fans. It probably will be Nole/Fed, but I'm just going with a hunch and playing out the variables; again, all in good fun. The only thing I'd put money on is Woz. I can see this one coming.

As a hardcore Djokovic fan, I would be happy if he took a set off the GOATing Murray.

If the past is any indication, Djokovic cannot beat an in-form Murray at slams.

I expect Roger Federer to beat Monfils. However, if you think Dimitrov will be a cake walk for Roger you are either trolling or jinxing. Dimitrove was up a set and lost two sets in tie breaker against Nadal in AO 2014. He beat Murray in Wimbledon. He was very close to taking the Wimbledon champion to five sets.

    Don't underestimate Dimitrov.

I think Federer is a tough matchup for Dimitrov, but I'd love to see it. Much more than Federer-Monfils where Gael would offer up little resistance...

Why do you say that? Monfils has competed very well against Federer this past year. He even has a win over Federer in that timeframe unlike Dimitrov.

What do you feel about Roger's final prospects? Do you see him winning back to back against Grigor and Berdych?

I want Wozniacki to win. She's so hot. In regards to Djokovic, he is the best player in the world. He will win the US Open.

Monfils always flops against top players in slams. Dimitrov,on the other hand, has pushed Nadal,Djokovic close, beat Murray. I feel like he's getting very close to those top guys now...

    Nole > Murray in 4
    Waw > Kei in 4
    Nole > Waw in 5

Fed will sleep walk over Agut, Dimi, and whoever is in the SF all in 3 unless it happens to be Berdych in which case that will go longer.

Nole will beat Fed in the finals in either 4 or 5 depending on whether Berdych is there to give Fed any resistance in the SF.

In the women's draw it will be Serena vs Woz. If Serena is at her best she will win, if not Woz will win.

You haven't been sold on Serena's fitness for five years? Two questions: what's her record over that time, and, what does it take to convince you? Btw, I hope your "Challenger level players" comment was "in good fun," otherwise it was embarrassing.

Red hot OP. Already nailed Gael. Somebody please zap my horrific Dimitrov CYGS post from this site forever. Probably the stupidest thing I've ever written. Grigor tops out with a Wawa career if he's lucky.

I agree Woz would be the feel good win. Of course, I could see Serena wanting to match the record in NYC.

I pretty much expect Fed-Novak in the final, where it would not shock me in the least if Novak lost, yet another USOpen final.

Naaaah, he's not that bad. But he's not as good as he's hyped-up to be. He's more of a Gasquet or Almagro type. 2nd tiers, but not in the league of the Big 3 type .....or even the potential to be.

Hope he proves me wrong We need young players to come out firing. The Big 4 are not getting any younger

I'm scared of every opponent to be honest. With Federer you never know. If this was 2007 I would be partying it up already because Federer back then would beat anyone in the final but not now.

Indeed. And not only shown by the poster you quoted.

I think it safe to say Djokovic has gotten past Murray in 4, and not the other way round.

Most likely scenario: Federer will most likely lose to Berdych, if not Monfils. He's very susceptible to power and consistency. Berdych plays Fed tough regardless of what kind of form they are both in heading into the match. And even if Fed somehow did make the finals, Djoko will beat him. Not sure I want to see Fed get beaten yet again by Djoko, or Berdych for that matter. Most likely scenario is Monf takes out Fed and Djoko win 2014 USO. Next likely scenario is Berd wakes up on the right side of the bed and beats Djoko.

Optimistic scenario: We are talking really optimistic here. Cilic takes out Berd and Kei takes out Djoko. Fed manages to get past Monfils, and gets over the line against a tired Cilic. Fed vs Kei in the final. Kei probably won't last 5 sets again this deep in the tournament, but can still take out Fed.

Rating the remaining players for the title:
Djoko - unlikely any of the remaining players can beat him.
    ....
    ....
Berd - If he can find a way to beat Djoko.
Monfils - Looks on a good run, hasn't dropped a set?
Fed - If Kei takes out Djoko, and he can find a way past Berd. Needs a lot of luck
Kei - Too much mileage already in the tournament.
    Cilic - Cinderella story?
