I have problems beating a tall guy. He comes often to the net and my lobs are easily hitted. The passing shot is also a problem because he voleys decently and has long arms. this is a problem specially playing doubles against him. I'm 3.5 player. Any strategy ?

Thanks

Hit low to his/her weak wing. Low slices to the the weaker wing does wonders. Also, move them around, usually tall people tire faster and are much slower around the court.

Hey! I resemble that statement!;)

Seriously though, how tall are we talkin? im 6'4" and I don't tire out any faster than the shorter people I play. And in answer to the question that started the thread, peg him.

I agree with Prince of Tennis...hit it low when he/she's at net and aim at the body. At least it makes him/her earn that blockshot.

I'm a 5' 11" player and usually play against people a little bit taller, or a little bit shorter. But, there is this one guy I train with who is a 5.0 S+V who's about 6' 6". He uses the height advantage a lot when he comes to net, since anything that is at his shoulder height he can slap it away for a winner with ease.

The best advice I can give it to his low, since most tall players don't want to bend that low constantly. Never attempt to lob, unless he's running forward while you do it. If you have pretty good accuracy on your passing shots, you should go for the achilles heel of passing shots: hit it to the shoulder of the racket arm. Most people don't know that this is a fatal weakness for players, since the forehand/backhand volley are unable to reach, and if for some reason your opponent moves over to hit the volley, the reply is going to be very weak.

at the 3.5 level, a player with a "decent" volley probably can't handle heavy spin, or generate "punch" on their volleys. don't try to hit through him, he'll just deflect it away. see what he does with a soft ball. maybe put some slice on it. be ready for a short volley that you can THEN try to kill.

don't try to beat the net man in one shot. they've put you at a disadvantage in court positioning with their approach shot, usually forcing you to one corner or the other. hit them something they can't control well, then when you have better position on the court...like inside the baseline or in the middle of the court...then you can go for the pass or the lob at will.

work on your lob. i can consistently lob a 6'6" friend when he's at net because he crowds the net. when he backs off to guard the lob, then i hit low so he has to volley up. then, when he's out of position, or after he's hit a poor volley, i can pass him or lob him very easily.

soft and low so the ball dips over the net and goes down by his feet. You could lob over his partner. Also you could hit hard into his body and jam him.
