An alternative route that might yield better results...

    1) withdraw a large stack of cash.

    2) go to the store and buy some envelopes

    3) sign up for a bunch of tournaments in third world countries.

    4) look for the one that has the smallest qualifying draw.

    5) contact the tournament director. set up a meeting with the tournament
director. bring an envelope with a wad of cash in it. let the TD know it sure
would be nice to be able to get into the main draw on a wild card or at
least a wild card into the qualifying. set up a meeting with him.
do not forget your envelope with cash. if you accidentally leave it behind
it might be misconstrued as a bribe.

    6) if you get into the qualifying, print out the draw and bring the printout
to the match. put the envelope on the draw sheet. do not forget your
envelope with cash. if you accidentally leave it behind it might be misconstrued as a bribe.

    7) repeat step 6 until you get into the main draw.

8 ) for the first round match in the main draw. bring your draw printout
and envelope with cash. mount a video camera with a gorilla pod and
record the match. post on youtube. login to your TW account and
post the link and write a short thank you to onehandbh.

    9) make a business card that says "professional tennis player" and get ready to
fend off the TW groupies that will be following you.*

    * most will be 15-55 year old males.

Hey onehandbh, any chance you are coming to ojai today? my player is scheduled for 11am.

He is trying to go a different route than the "envelope with cash" method.

Already has been done and you don't have to go to a 3rd world country. A WTT owner got kevin kim to pair with him in dubs. Got WC main draw and opponents retired. ATP points for some 40+ year old rec player.

Nothing on the radar for opens in LA yet. Going to Tampa for F13 next i believe. I'll let you know if we end up down there.

Dang, wish I was around. I'm currently out of town. Won't be back in LA until later in June.

I do not recommend the envelope method for your player. He's good!
    and a legit talent/player.

But has anyone done this for 1 ATP point in singles? Seems like there's gotta be a bunch of
struggling futures players that might think twice before turning in a wad of cash into the
    lost and found...

I completed steps #2 and #9. I considered #4, but then got bored, so I repeated step #2 three more times.

You missed a heck of a match, lost 75,06,64. Was up a break with 2 bp's for 2 break 5-2 lead in 1st and had a bp for 2 break lead 3-0 in 2nd. Didn't get those 2nd breaks and the guy was able to break back and run out both sets. The guy just wouldn't make any errors and used his experience to hang tough on the big points. Great experience for the youngin.

So close... almost took down the #1 seed!!! it's just a matter of time
before he gets some wins in the main draw of a futures. Knocking hard on the
    door now.

Mental toughness seems to be one of the biggest things in tennis. Once you get that
    breakthrough, everything changes.

This post reminds me of the Agassi book, specifically Phil Agassi's dream of getting 1 ATP point.

Cool guide, would cost a lot though. You are better off training for years on end in your spare time until you are 30 (so you would need to start at about 15 at the latest), and then entering in a small tournament near where you live.
