How do you go from a Safin to a Federer? Sometimes my head is like Safin's (but not that bad). Sometimes I get frustrated when I miss some of my shots I hit harder and harder and the unforced errors add up. Any tips on how to stay calm inside my head. I don't throw racquets or anything but I find myself talking to myself too much and letting it affect the next point.

Can you hit with spin? Alot of weekend hackers including myself tend to play tentatively when our 'normal' shots don't go in. Playing tentatively makes things even worse because I become even more tense and prod the ball even more. Lately though I have learnt to hit 'out', when under pressure, with heavy spin to keep the ball in play and deep.

Be versatile and be prepared to change a loosing game plan.

Depends on personality type and mental toughness along with experience.

Those things aside you must be able to deal with the fact sometimes your shots will be off and must be able to switch gameplans and styles for that matter.

The biggest thing is to not become a pusher and just run to everything and barely tap it back over, it'll make things worse.
When in doubt, more topspin. More up, less through - that'll cut back on errors, give you some consistency, let you stay in the rally and allow you get some flow to your match. Once you get a flow or rhythm, confidence will begin to return and so will your mindset.

I never push or dink, sometimes i will hit a short ball to bring the other guy up to net then try to hit him in the face. The really good ones (1/2) will hit a good volley and try to make me pass him. Some will duck (1/4) and the rest will get hit

Your passing shots should be aimed at his groin or lower. I think maybe you need to work on your consistency and placement and not try to hit so hard.
