I am playing my first year in a USTA league and really feel im on the edge of being a 4.0. A lot of players are "pushers" and require me to generate my own pace. I play in the winter with a lot of 4.0 players and even compete or take a few sets drom them.

I self rated and was a 3.5 but what do i need to do to get to the 4.0 level?

Sign up for a 4.0 team if you are good enough that a 4.0 team wants you. Otherwise play 3.5 until you are good enough that a 4.0 team wants you and then sign up.

What has your success been like at 3.5? If you lost 3.5 matches why did you lose them and were they singles or doubles?

Everyone hates playing pushers but if you aren't beating them then you still have things to learn before moving to 4.0

You can always play up in both league and tournaments. Why don't you enter a couple of 4.0 tournaments and see how things go?

    Statistically? Win decisively

Competitively? Play more aggressive, get fitter, have a solid weapon

Learn how to hit and return serves really well. Learn consistency with decent power. You'll progress in no time.

I think more than anything it's basics. I've seen so many 3.5's that have good records but have terrible serves and/or strokes. I would suggest having someone look at your game and really break down any problems you may have.

Get to the point where you feast on balls with no pace.
