How would you practice volleys with a wall?

    Was seeing the Cara Black video, impressive.

    What drills would you recommend to practice volleys with a wall?
    The goal would be to improve volleys in actual play.

    Stand 30' back from the wall, crush a topspin groundies about 6' high at the wall, move in to 16' distance from the wall, switch to continental grip and volley it 40" off the ground at the wall.
    Repeat procedure a few hundred times a day.
    Better to have a partner fire groundies into your court while you're standing just inside your own service line.

    Stand about 5 or 6 feet away, and hit forehand/backhand volleys .... keep your racket head up, and slightly open

    But do it with a 1hbh volley, no support hand.....blind folded, wrong hand.

    Volley and half volley practice begins at 3:30

    Devote at least some of your practice to hitting very tough volleys and half volleys of the type your opponent would hit. For this part of your wall practice expect to miss a few/shank a few. Getting used to pressure and how to handle tough volleys will allow you improve. Keep a few extra balls in your pocket for this part of the practice so you don't have to chase the ball after every miss.

    Yesterday I had trouble finding a hitting partner, and since it'd been raining for some days and may rain again I absolutely wanted to go out hit some balls. Normally what I do in such cases is warm up with the wall, and try to keep my eye on the spot of contact after hitting a groundstroke, something I don't do enough of, and then serve. But then I started thinking… wouldn't it be great if I could find a way to practice volleys with a wall for such days.

    Ok, so repetitions about 6 feet away and crushing it and volleying it after. The video backs it up.
    Thanks a lot, I don't think I would have thought of that way of practicing. Looking forward to giving both ways a try.

    By the way, that whole video is really good. For the groundstrokes (let's say middle of the mini-court), he's what, 18' away from the wall?
