Normally I string poly mains at 52lbs and softer crosses at 55lbs.

So what if I put the soft string in the mains and the poly in the crosses. Do I keep the same tension with the strings? ie. soft mains at 55lbs and poly crosses at 52lbs. or, are mains supposed to be lower that crosses?

I would keep them the same and then play around with the tensions from there.

Yeah, keep them the same. (Fewer variables leads to a more simple comparison.)

so you're saying keep poly at the same regardless of whether it's the main or the cross?

    or

keep the mains/crosses the same tension regardless the string?

Keep the respective strings at the same tension.
