track and field? You mean track. Caucasians dominate field events. They also dominate high jump. Not to mention weightlifting, swimming, and other athletic events.

Obviously, each race has their own strengths. Being an athletically gifted tennis player isn't about who would win a 100 m sprint.

Yes a real shame. So many opportunities but his draw was impossible anyway: Berdych, Gulbis, Robredo, Almagro, Ferrer, Fed and then most likely Nadal????? You got to be kidding me!!! No one would survive a draw like that at RG. I'm gonna put it down as the toughest slam draw I have ever seen. Seriously.

real north africans (algerians, moroccans, tunisians, libyans) don't identify with black africans. Depending on the person, either their berber or arab background.

Somalis are the one's who claim both african and middle eastern ancestry. Maybe Sudan and Kenya too, I'm not sure.

Yeah, but notice how President didn't include anything moronic about "superior genetics" and discussed Monfils' tennis skills instead.

Here is the crux of your argument: "Monfils is better because genetics".

Guys good convo but lets take the time out to mention that Monfils decided to let Robredo win just like other opponents in the past. So technically Monfils won this title and beat Robredo 2 sets to love.

It was a guaranteed slam, its not worth wasting energy.

By Monfils Winning the title by loosing on paper he just Guaranteed himself Wimbledon and the Us open Title for this year. He now has a enough time to prepare for Wimbledon.

So not just Superior Genetics and Talent.

Superior Ego and Brains as well.

Hes all around the best player of all time

Libyan/Saudi/ and Serbian in my Family

The Serbian comes from Marriage and cousins in the family tree etc...

    Robredo outsmarted him.
It has nothing to do with stamina.
Monfils presser later tonight was a disgrace, he basicallu said he didnt lose tennistically but only because he was tire.
    Super clown.

There is racism all over the world against "black africans"...not surprising that people all over the world and their attitudes are affected by it.

There are "real" (LOL) north africans that identify themselves as "black africans," but of course the notion of racial categories that you are familiar with will not be exactly the same in other parts of the world.

Quadaffi considered himself to be a "black african."

How silly and ignorant to make such a broad and obviously false proclamation.

This is a really ignorant conversation overall.

Poor Monfils having his named dragged into such stupidity.

Buddy chill out. By real I meant north of Sahara. A lot of Somalis and other Sub-saharans call themselves north african when that isn't geographically correct. And obviously I was generalizing. There are some people like Quadaffi who have sub-saharan admixture. It's most common in Libya where Quadaffi and the OP is apparently from. Much more rare in the other 3.

Lol i was having fun, until some people brought race into this.
I dont see the point, as all life started in africa and technically everyone is black underneath. Lighter skin is just do to climate Mutation.

Monfils played good this tournament though from, not playing much this year. Could've done a lot better but thats Monfils

    Blasphemy

He is about to be back in the top 50.

While all the "great up and comers" spend years trying to get there.

And when they do, they hardly stay there.

Monfils is a top 15 player atm, and thats just being honest without all the extra stuff.

Before he got injured he just chilled in between 11-15 when he was playing half decent. So he will be there by January in my opinion

Well "great and up and comers " get there and he hasn't got anywhere yet. He is the same age or near the top four ( 26 years September 1, 1986 ). Haas was top two before he was injured too. The extra stuff is part of the whole player dumb arse. My favourite payer is the best but.... he is injured all the time.. Hey if he didn't get injured he would be the GOAT.. Can't be the GOAT if you can't play or even win tournaments.

When i speak GOAT its obvious im not speaking Skill wise. He has never reached 1/4 of his peak and probably never will.

Im more talking about his free fun giving attitude.
    Excitement and entertainment value
    Athleticism/Genetics/Natural strokes
His "you never know" game style, when he can beat Federer one day then loose to donald.
99.9% of pros playing now will never reach Places where gael has gone, on the junior circuit and Pros. He's one some titles, been deep in grand slams, Consistently top 20 (when not injured).

He is the GOAT overall, i believe his journey over all has been the most entertaining out of the top 20.

Most of the Top players also lack entertainment value. Like Federer and murray.

    I can go on.

He is the GOAT imo opinion to me

I guess you don't know what GOAT means.. Greatest Of All Time... When i speak GOAT its obvious im not speaking Skill wise. He has never reached 1/4 of his peak and probably never will.
    ..
Can't be a GOAT with no skill and will never reach of his peak.. Junior titles mean nothing after turning pro. There are many players that didn't win nothing as a junior and made great life from pro tennis.

Being tip 20 isn't being a GOAT.. You need to win tournaments and be the best.

We can call Monfils the Kournikova of men's tennis...

    Reading comprehension.

I said he is the GOAT to me, imo.

Nobody will change my opinion. I believe he's greater then Federer,Djokovic and all of them combined

Monfils is a good player. Has the skills to be a top 15 -25 player. I think is more talented and better that Tipsy, Monaco,Raonic , Querrey , Dolgopolov, Chardy . He has to work more and adapt the game strategy depending on the other player.

Good win for him on grass. :)

I'm not that surprised. Gael is one of the best returner against huge serves. IIRC, he once played a match against Dr. Ivo where he didn't get aced even once.

Plus he wont have many deep rounds to defend... next year

    Wow. That's pretty impressive.

I figured Le Monf would be ambitious to do well after his return after an injury layoff.

Still, that's ... impressive. I've seen Dr. Ivo live, he's HUGE. I had a courtside seat to his USO match a couple of years ago against Sasha Dolgopolov and I couldn't bring myself to take pictures when he was opposite me serving because the lens made it look like the ball was coming right at my head.

This is a ... really confusing conversation, considering Le Monf was once ranked at #7.

How long have you people been watching tennis?

Nope, since it's for "personal reasons". He won't expand it in the press if it's personal. He could come back to competition during the second week of Wimbledon. He wasn't guaranteed to have a WC anyway.

It's annoying for his fans that want to see him have a higher ranking. But on the other hand, he doesn't lose a lot by skipping this tournament. He wasn't going to win the tournament anyway so the only things he loses are prize money and ranking points. He has enough money and judging from the amount of tournaments he's been playing and his overall behavior he doesn't care THAT much about his ranking (for now).
Skipping a tournament isn't going to make him play worse, maybe some rest will even do him good. So we should be able to expect the same Monfils that we saw at RG at the next tournament he plays.
