that is ok as long as i am helping someone, then it is all worth it!!!
just don't tell my wife that, she will kill me if i drag one more racket home with me.
most of the time, i just put them in the closet and she never knows until she opens the door and they all fall out.

Haven't counted in a while and there's constant movement in and out of the collection, but somewhere in the low triple figures.

And i'm just a beginner compared to some collectors on this site.

yeah i know what you're talking about, i once had 16x Wilson Pro Staff 6.1 classics i think i posted a pic of them, and 17x Prince Precision Response Titaniums

i switched to a more expensive frame and found it difficult to buy more than 4

Ditto, here in the UK the Dunlop 4D range is being sold off at £40 ($64) new, with case. So far in the last couple of weeks I have bought a 4D200Tour, 2x 4D100 and a 4D200 16x19 (this one for my son) and I don't think I've finished yet...

and ... not counting anymore :)

Btw, it's ok to buy racquets as long as you have money to pay your rent and to buy groceries. Sometimes I just can't refuse a good deal and other times entirely miss a great deal b/c I have no free cash. :)

i wonder how the pros manage to stick to the same racquets over the years. it's not like they are not tempted to try anything else out there? especially, when they get all offered all kinds of different stuff all the time, and for for free

pros depend ontheir equipment to work properly - once they find what works best for them, any change can destabilize a successful career. free stuff can be a distraction - especially equipment.

Good point. I don't think Sampras, Agassi or even Fed are "tempted" to try new racquets. They have other temptations to worry about, like sports cars, real estate and investments. :)

maybe if they win all the time, they don't question their equipment (sampras, federer in their best days...). but don't u think Murray didn't have a thought "what if i played with Rafa's Babolat, maybe I would've outhitted Djoker in the AO'11 final) :)

Evey once in a while, I buy one of a racquet that might be outside of the normal spec range. The one that impressed me most was the Volkl V-Engine Tour 10 Mid. That was one sweet stick. I've since moved on and have a closet of full of racquets:

    (2) Wilson Hyper Pro Staff 6.1 95s
    (1) Pro Kennex 5G Tour
    (1) Wilson Hyper Pro Staff 6.5 Tour
    (3) Fischer Pro. No. 1
    (1) Babolat Pure Drive Roddick GT
    (1) Head Youtek Prestige Pro
    (3) Yonex RDS 002 Tour

I don't really collect racquets for the sake of collecting. I'd have more frames in my closet if I hadn'tve given most of them away.

You got me thinking now. Would anyone really believe that Sampras would want to "try" a free PS88 when he played all his career with PS85 and probably can still handle it very well?

It's all marketing and we know it all too well. There is a reason pro rooms exist.

i've stopped buying for awhile...my problem is i like nearly all my racquets now, that i have a hard time deciding which one to use. unfortunately i can only play w/ one stick at a time and i feel guilty neglecting the others. :(

I stopped that madness long time ago. The truth is you're not buying to collect but rather you're in search for yet another game improvement racket. Then you realized that the racket you just bought is not for you- then it becomes a collection! Don't get me wrong, I was in the same boat until I woke up to reality that I was spending more than I should on this hobby. I then got rid and donated everything except my PSCs. I stopped looking for the Holy Grail and just improve myself to fit my game on my current racket rather than the other way around. Someday, I'll hang "my only PSC collections" that I can proudly say I "used" during my playing days. :)

Just the way you said it, they're PROS! They don't really "change racket" just for the heck of it, they're changing SPONSORS that offers them more money! You can hand them the cheapest racket you can kind and still beat the heck out of you because they're PROS!:)

It all comes down to who's got more money to burn I guess. There's people that do collect vintage rackets just for their own enjoyment and that's fine. I enjoy collecting my winning trophies instead- it's more fulfilling when you earned something than what you just bought to display. :)

sometimes i find racquets at garage sales, flea markets. i bought a prince OG at a flea market a few years ago, almost new for $15.00. i jumped on that one.
now i buy them at a good price, hit with them a couple of times to see if they are my "wonder" racquet and then back to the closet.
after awhile, i sale them and on the next adventure of finding another great "deal".
i am hooked - i know - but i have to have some vices.

I've managed to hold off for a few months; but, yesterday found a near pristine Graphite Director for B-I-L. I've been looking for strips to 'restore' his original one, but this one cost less than I would likely pay for a set of strips(at PIAS, with 20% off coup). Cheapy strings in it but look unhit. If B-I-L really wants to use it, I'll restring with something fun.

They also had a "Comet" wood stick that was in great shape. The shaft is built up and rounded so it is almost round in shape...never saw a wood racket quite like it. For $20, I passed on it.

I still drop by the numerous GoodWill locatiions nearby...you never know when you'll stumble on a 'prize'. ;)
