FYI, fans don't bring any money to the players really. Endorsement contracts do. The only obligation players have is to WTA/ATP. Ask Hewitt.

About 8 million people live where I live and that makes the whole thing pretty social and 'decent' if you ask me. Let me tell you what's not - the overweight hillbillies coming around for xmas and waving in line for cameras with the silly idea that Katie Couric is one of them.

Makes me thing about the Curb You Enthusiasm episode where Larry David thinks he is entitled to ask a perfect stranger in the locker room of his country club to look at a mole on his back just because he happens to know he is a doctor.

That goes for you too, Phil. I will no longer repond or discourse with you. You're like Fredo to me, mangez la merde et mourez.

Yet, Edge is a clever guy. It sounds like everybody support him and only Phil confronts. In reality, Phil is in a majority.

I will use this method of saying 'we' instead 'I' to add more weight to my words and the method of singling out my opponents to diminish their significance.

    Went off topic. Sorry.

There aren't any endorsements without fans. It all starts and ends with fans. More fans = more money in tennis.

That simple. The players owe fans everything or there would be no ATP or WTA. Public interest drives these things. I hope you realize this.

David, that's kind of naive to say that money comes from endorsements and not fans. Yes, it directly comes from endorsements, but WWVolley is right, more money=more fans. If tennis was as popular as football, basketball, or nascar, these players would be even richer.

If players owe fans EVERYTHING, must players have sex by request of fans?

So, it's not THAT simple. It could be as simple as THAT:
There aren't any andorsements without players.
The fans owe players everything because without players there would be no tennis at all.
It's the game what attracts real fans not the off court activities.

Treat players as your peers. Do not idolize them. Do not treat them as your slaves. You pay money to them for playing their game. If you ask something else (an autograph, a picture etc), be ready to get a refusal.

You say that you ask something, but you behave like you demand something. That's what I can't stand.

C_urala, you have it ass-backwards. If it weren't for the fans, the players wouldn't make any money. They would be poor slobs just like you. They owe it to the fans that they live the life that they do. You take it to the extreme. Yes they can just say no, now are you frickin' happy? But the fact remains, they owe it to the fans. When tennis was an amatuer sport thay were not rich, as the fan base increased they became rich, that's a FACT. Agassi makes much more than Dementieva because he is more popular. Kournakova made much more than any WTA player because she was more popular, NOT because of her frickin' tennis game!

It's a simple view... fans are a very small part of the equation -- public interest is all that matters. Two very different things.

I'm no fan of anyone in particular but I follow TENNIS religiously. It shows on ratings and bring Sport Channels advertising revenue justifying them to pay broadcasting rights to ATP/WTA. ATP/WTA redistributes the money to the players during tournaments (a nobody makes 50K/season just for showing up/goes up the roof as soon as they win a title)

Nike/Adidas can't afford to stay away from the whole thing and will pay endorsement money according to:

    1/ ATP/WTA rankings
    2/ popularity (Agassi)
    3/ good looks (James Blake/Kournikova)

First of all, if you want to insult me, use russian curses. Somehow, english equivalents do not bother me to the least. If you don't, try to avoid all those 'slobs' etc. It means nothing to me, but other people can think that you are angry. That, in turn, would mean that you are wrong.

Second. Speaking about extremes. It's not me who said that players owe fans everything. I just gave a simple example that it's incorrect.

Third. The example with Agassi does not prove anything because Agassi won many more trophies than Dementieva, so it's not so evident why he makes much more - whether because he is more popular (which is debatable, per se) or because he has a better game.
The example with Kournikova is better in the sense of logics. And here we come to the

Forth. The whole thing "who owes whom" reminds me the proverbial "what was the first: the egg or the hen"
Fans bring money to the equation, players bring their game.
They sell, you buy. But you try to buy more for the same money - you want players not only entertain you with their game, you also want to get their private time. ( Now according to WADA regulations, professional players must pass drug tests almost anytime. Remember the case with Serena, when an official came to her house at 9 p.m. ). Of course, signing one autograph is not that time consuming, but when it happens too often , it's not so inoffensive.

And the last. You don't ask autographs during the match. Why? If that "frickin' tennis game" is not what you pay for, stop the match, make the players sign autographs for everyone and call it a day. ?

C_U, your arguments are a bit extreme: sex with fans??? Stop the match to sign??? What kind of extreme world are you living in? If the fan base/popularity had not grown, these players would be playing on grass courts in the old clubs with about 800 people watching with no TV contracts. The players would barely make enough to travel. It would be even a more niche sport somewhat like squash or table tennis. Indeed they owe alot to the fans. Now if Dementieva wants to have sex with her fans to show her appreciation, I wouldn't mind. :D

    I am with C_Urala.
You cannot bother pros on every minutes in their private life. They need their privacy like everybody else. Yes they are public figures, but only at tennis court, not in airport or restraurant. So if you want any autograph do that in a tennis event.

It's not my world, it's a method of arguing.
It's called 'proof by contradiction' or 'ad absurdum' or 'ex adverso'.
I start from arguments of my opponents, continue and show that it leads to nonsense (you've called this nonsense in your post). Logically, it means that those arguments are not sound.

Now 'If the fan base/popularity had not grown,'..
You'll understand my main point if you answer WHY it had grown
Well, 'understand' does not mean 'accept', but at least we'll be talking about the same thing.

C_Urala, you no sense to me make. Again you said nothing new, just wasted bandwidth. Please crawl back into whatever cave you live in before you reveal to everyone just how stupid you are. Hopefully not all men from Russia are as stubborn and as stoopid as you.
