I feel bad for her. She had a few chances to win the Slam's and come short. At current WTA standard, I hope she can come back and make another run.

Being a fan of hers is painful but still wish she was still playing.

I miss her too. I always hoped to see her win a slam, but at least we got to see her win Olympic Gold. If only she'd gotten her serve together earlier in her career like she did in her last few years on the tour.

There's already another thread in which everyone declared how desperately they will miss her legs.

Elena, game in and game out, left everything on the court. I wish her the best.

She played with more guts than just about anyone else I can think of in the women's game. Rarely if ever would she roll over and die after dropping a first set. If the ladies actually played best of five setters at the majors, she wouldn't have earned a single title. Instead, she would have completed a true Grand Slam in a calendar year. While she wasn't a net crasher, she was consistently among the very best at what she did.

I liked her grunt, too. That's saying a lot for me because I'm ready to adore Maria Sharapova and cheer out loud for her comeback... but that noise is just offensive to me. For some reason, Elena's grunt was more like a karate sound, so I somehow tolerated it.

I didn't even know she wasn't in the tourney so I guess I won't miss her. Didn't really like her at all though. Not a very good body and a face like a greyhound.

She competed at the highest level for a long time. It is a testament to how well she hit the ball because she did it without a serve.

She also did it with class.

She was heavily berated for her lack of a good serve and constant choking. Now that she's retired, people miss her and want her back (to criticize her again).
