I roar with Serena, The Golden Lion Out Of Compton, she of the glorious mane and glittery diamond claws, she who prowls inside the baseline pouncing on the serves of her mouselike foes, she whose catlike agility can catch all droppers, angles and lobs of those who would try to outfox her, she whose serve takes down prey larger than herself, she who cripwalks on the bony corpses of those who pretend to her throne, devouring the dead from her 17 siver platters, goblets and urns, picking her fangs with the feathers of her Owl Princess. With many cat lives remaining, she has defied injury and death to rise again and fill her den with wigs. Even the clay now runs red with the blood of her rivals. One by one they all fall to their knees or run and hide from her burning eye and mighty roar. I pledge allegiance to my ferocious queen, ball in hand ready to silence all who would fault her. COME ON!!!

A bit too much in the description. Plus, the thread needs a picture of Serena.

I was joking about too much. Nothing is too much for my queen. I'm hoping many pictures will be posted in the future by members of her pride.

Does Serena wear a wig? I thought I saw a photo where she looked like she was losing her hair underneath.

Queen Serena dwells among the immortals.* There is no limit to her powers and the trophies that will be bestowed upon her.**

*disguised as an old folks community in Florida

**She hasn't said when. If she bows out early, who knows? If she rides it til the end, maybe 20? What do you think?

I am not a soothsayer people! Although I'm actually starting to warm up to role. :) I'm just a purveyer of purple prose about Her Greatness's greatnesses, as AtomicForehand so aptly put it. And apparently I'm also incapable of posting pictures, and I gotta work tomorrow, so hopefully someone else will...

Omg it is fate! I hope she gets to chomp on one of her favorite tasty sugar treats, even if it's a little on the stale side :)

This is a real question. To what degree is Serena "from Compton?" We've all seen the early photos of Richard coaching Serena and Venus on Compton (or generally South Central) courts.

Was the family home in Compton or some other place in the L.A. area? And, weren't Venus and Serena off to Florida relatively early?

Yeah, I thought about that....i almost didnt go there since some people make fun of her like that, but it sounds so biblical this way (Lion out of Judah) and she has a mane. Of course the lioness does all the hunting! Anyway, a lioness is a lion, and i decided i was just splitting hairs (or fur) worrying about it. At any rate, she is worthy of 10,000 names! Lorderena, Goaterena, and anything better anyone can come up with...bring it on! All manners of praise are welcome.

Duncan, this thread was, in part, an attempt to flush you out...your wailing banshee ode was meant to be a fan thread. You will note that I said Serena picks her fangs with the feathers of her Owl Princess. She may pluck a few feathers, but she will never kill her princess, because she needs someone to inherit her throne, especially since her cub, Sloane, has turned out to be such a disappointment so far. Can an owl and a lion be friends? Yes!

Ok, so a cat is not a lion, but a lion is still a cat...close enough. Note the inclusion of Sara Errani in this video at 1:54.

Awesome video. Errani reference had me in stitches.

The weird thing about the relationship between your Lioness and The Hoot Owl is that they genuinely seem to be good friends off the court...which I guess makes that video even more apposite. Bonus points if there was an injured bunny eating candy in it to round off the top 3.

Not only is she a Tennis Lioness she's also a medical wonder!

All other humans LOSE muscle mass as they age. And yet somehow Serena manages to GAIN muscle mass with time.

Must be simple, clean living and a diet rich in fiber, right?

    ;)

How do you know she's gaining muscle mass? Unless you're her personal trainer.

Muscle mass created by a diet rich in iron from the blood of Eastern Europeans! Up until now she has been of the age where people do gain strength. 32 is when people start deteriorating. Luckily she is so far ahead, she can lose plenty and be ok. What am I saying?! Luckily she is superhuman and not subject to the laws of nature or man. Rawr! :)

Aloha! I am lucky to live Hawaii, but am not ethnically Hawaiian. Because people of Hawaiian ancestry that claim that word, for clarification and respect, the rest of us refer to ourselves as Hawaii residents (or locals or kamaaina). Also, those who know me well can vouch for the fact that I am definitely not a fanboy! I am a big fan though, and possibly obsessed, but not in a dangerous way.

I do try to live and post aloha for the most part. This thread was created in the boredom of post US Open. I felt she's nearing the end of her career and there needed to be a place for fans to shamelessly and ridiculously brag on Serena in ways that would be unseemly and trollish in other venues. I want to make the most of the next couple years. It is my hope that people will treat this thread with the same aloha and respect I show their threads and not post trollish, hateful things in here. I just wanted to have a fun thread where fans can let off some steam and have some laughs without having it deteriorate into stupid fights like every other thread where her name is mentioned. Yeah, so I'm not only obsessed, I'm delusional :)

I hope she's ready for Li Na. I think she was tired against JJ ... it takes a lot of tennis to make $10 million in a year.

Great pix. Eyes closed! I love it! I am worried for Serena....I think her back was bothering her. I had to work today, so I've only seen the first set so far, but her serve was very weak and she looked like she was crying into her towel on the changeover. But her back was bothering her in Beijing and she still pulled it off. Win or lose, I'm proud of her for gutting out that win today and making the final.

All I know is she is an amazing player. Just an incredible two year run from her. 8 loses in two years. That is awesome. She was feeling the pressure yesterday but she seems to be able to focus much better now a days. Its a pleasure to watch her talent.

Another way of looking how great her current form has been:

In the nine year period from March 2003 to March 2012, Serena won 18 titles. From April 2012 to now, Serena won 18 titles. (!)

Not bad for such an old fart of a player. :-D
