Because of the work I do, I get invited out to their Hawthorne facility every couple of years to spend a full day with their program managers and lead scientists.

Smart folks, deep pockets, and a comprehensive, top-to-bottom vision of what the future could look like. They're building it.

Don't know what you're measuring the market share of. Linux servers? Personal computers?

IBM wants you to use the cloud. It's a nice, convenient way for them to access your personal data.

Rh310, yes...This is also what i hear when i listen to my friends in IT.

When i referred to mkt share, i was talking about what i see in my office, related offices, at a coffee shop and among my kids/friends. I see a lot of apple products and quite a few laptops that are not lenovo or ibm.

It is funny, my old pc at my office is the only ibm tower within miles. They are building the big stuff.

    Global economy. One world religion.

Everyone should know by now that soy is not good for you and that it messes with your hormones.

It has nothing to do with personal data. It is more about the ability to offer subscription based OPEX and save companies money. There are cloud solutions that do not store data at all. Plenty of them.

IT guys hate it because it can make their jobs useless depending on the company.

Some love it because it lessens their work load (no on premise server maintenance).

Lets at least have some facts before trying to make this into yet a another global conspiracy.

IT guys should embrace cloud and learn to develop on cloud to deliver business value to the business. Keeping servers running isn't going to cut it anymore.

The iCloud breach this morning should remind users to be careful what they put on the cloud. We don't allow work product to be stored on the cloud because of security issues.

It appears that once again the power of the TT boards has triumphed and IBM has pulled the soy burrito ad as well as the patty cake forehand ad.

They have switched to a new one where the guy reads a manual. It is by no means a great ad, but at least it isn't soul crushingly smug and annoying.

Thank god for the TT boards, Chris Fowler and all those people in high places that help get things done.

Also: don't put your naked pics on the cloud. Maybe actor guy/puffy dimitrov could address the leaky cloud in the next episode?

Not to split hairs (too much :) ) but was it an iCloud breach per se? I thought it was targeted attacks against specific accounts based on the weakness of passwords and those "prove you're you" questions.

Any commercial will get annoying after the first 50 times. The IBM ads are well made and technically well produced. I'd rather watch that ad over many others.

It wasn't a general iCloud breach. It was targeted attacks against specific accounts.

iCloud bears some culpability though because there wasn't a login failure count lockout. Hackers could try credentials as many times as they wanted to. My financial websites will lock the account if you don't get your credentials right on the first couple of tries. It may reset some time later or you might have to call or visit a branch to get your account or password reset.

That's sounding more likely. The hacker allegedly dropped some hints that this was done over the course of months - thus one 'victory' (brute force password guess) per celeb. And either waited to do them all at once once he had enough - or a week before the iPhone Event to embarrass AAPL and ensure max coverage.

I almost wonder if IBM is joking

I laughed so hard at this - nailed exactly what is wrong with these inane IBM commercials.

No, ingredients are not just data, you f***ing moron. Followed by the smug nod of approval from . . . who is this guy again? some self-important tw** hipster?

How about the play wherein cloud boy reads a couple simple configuration instructions and then audience boy asks, as though it's the most perceptive question ever, something to the effect of "why not just get the thingy that already works with the other thingy?" As though moving your IT infrastructure to the cloud magically eliminates the need to do even the most rudimentary configuration of your systems. Or how about another one: Need to beat the top seeded player? It's easy with big data - just get the numbers! - and then they show this uncoordinated clown trying, and failing, to hit a tennis ball.

The common thread running through all these commercials is that they are almost already parodies of idiots' interpretations of what "big data" and the cloud are and what they can deliver. The problem with such marketing horsesh** is that it spreads unrealistic expectations and misinformation, and makes it that much harder to get a business decision-maker to understand that it's more complicated than 1) plug new business jargon word into business and 2) cash the resultant checks.

In addition to rolling out its cloud initiatives, IBM seems intent on building out the craposphere, where flash always trumps substance even when (especially when?) the topic is technical and complex.

    Way to suck, IBM.

It doesn't mean it was good- but it does mean it did it's job. Studies show the adverts we remember the best are the most irritating.
Dominic Cooper, the actor, can be brilliant (the History Boys) and better than average in thankless parts (Mama Mia).

The commercial with the d*uchey guy eating the tofu apricot chocolate vegan burrito bullsh*t or whatever makes me want to kill something. Don't even get me started in the commercial where he attempts to "play" tennis.

I'd swear it was the Geico lizard, based on the sound only, until I saw that it was actually a human.

Couldn't stand that dude from the first time I saw the commercial. My brother and his wife immediately hated him also.

He's worse than Flo from Progressive.
