I'm interested doing a tennis holiday somewhere in Europe that's a mixture of mostly tennis but also some evening sociability / sightseeing.

    Is there such a thing?

I not keen on anywhere that does 6 hours of professional drills everyday for the entire time, but neither do I want someting that full of retired people hitting deflated ball around on some disintegrating courts with ripped nets for an hour a day.

Any ideas / venues / websites appreciated.

    Take a look at zischka.at

    It´s a http://zischka.at/overview_eng.php for the English version.

They are one of the biggest and they have camps all over Croatia (the best claycourt tennis holiday in the world.... probably! )

I have been in Croatia 5 times and it´s simply the Best for a tennis-holiday

I spent a week in Montecatini, Italy once, just west of Firenze (Florence). The park next to my hotel had a clay facility with about ten courts, including several in a bubble in case of rain, with a very active pro. The facility was gorgeous, dates to the 1920s, and was the scene of some Davis Cup matches. The pro told me Adrianna Panatta learned to play there. You could do private lessons, and the pro has a roster of locals to make matches for you (very good players). Fairly close by are Florence, Siena, Lucca, Pisa and other sights.

No question it's tough to find a mix of both sadly. Either totally intense animalistic question or full on resort style with half credible tennis play.

    Try this~

^^ we loved it there, I took an hour with the pro most days and he arranged matches for me with his local buddies, excellent players. You don't even need a car, though it would be lovely, as the train stops in town and goes everywhere (about 20 minutes on the train to Florence). Montecatini is an old spa town famous for its mineral baths.
