No,he would still suck on clay. Now if he cameback and won FO next year then yes he would probably be GOAT.

He'd still be a contender. And the FO missing will always light up in his resume.

@ Zagor: How's making FO semis 'suckin on clay'?:)

TW standards are very harsh,he never won FO therefore he sucks on clay :).

when being compared with other players on clay with the likes of roddick, blake or murray then yes he is a good clay player. however when we're talking about a GOAT resume then he totally sucks. it's like having A grades on all other subjects and a D grade on a single subject therefore disqualifying him for a latin honor.

Hmm, maybe.. So what's Borg's US Open missing? Borg never won a HC Slam and is a contender too.

he at least made 4 (?) finals. maybe we can give him a passing mark there. however, managing only a single semi in his whole entire 14 year career definitely is a recipe for a failing grade on a particular surface :)

He has to beat a prime Nadal in the finals, no less. Just winning FO means nothing.

And if he beats Nadal, then its not a prime Nadal, but a tired/injured one. So he has to lose to Nadal in the finals, to prove its a prime Nadal.

Bit of a catch-22, you work it out.

Ditch the silly thread. Lets talk about this ...

What if Baggy proposes too ?

What if Baggy finds out you married Safin ?

Would you like Safina as your sis in law ????

She'd probably go with the looks and the career prize money rather than her heart as a fan.;)

That is like if Seles came back now and won Wimbledon would she be the female GOAT. Both have about the same shot of happening considering how weak the womens field is.

No. Winning Wimbledon doesn't make someone GOAT.

Borg is a little different. He played 4 slams on hardcourt (all at the U.S. Open) and made F, QF, F, F before retiring. A little different than having over a decade of trying and trying and only once making the semis.

what's with the constant obsessing about sampras on this board? he shouldn't even be mentioned here, as he's a former pro.

Maybe he would meet Laver in the finals. They can have a GOAT showdown.

Imagine nearly 70 year old Court coming back and winning Wimbledon again. More chance than Sampras coming back and winning the French for the first time, heck maybe more chance than Sampras coming back and winning Wimbledon when you compare the current state of the mens and womens games.

I was joking because some of Sampras's most vocal fans on these boards still think the guy is top 5 material based on the way he 'beat' Federer in one of those exhibition matches.
