streaky, yes, and disappointing at Metz, but that was a very respectable scoreline against Raonic today... and of course he's got the other big guy to protect him in the doubles ... baggy/delpo meet erlich/ram in the second round ... intrepid opponents, but the cyprot/argentine duo m/b able to do it! :)

Did Phil have a left shoulder injury, or just no BH. BTW Raonic really isn't just big FH and serve, he really sets up the points nicely.

I predicted Blake is Back last week. If he was willing to play challengers in Sacramento in October, then he's committed to coming back.

A great win for Blake, nice to see him getting back and looking competitive when it looked in the beginning of the year like he was ready to retire.

And he's back into the top 100 too which is good too, around 67 I believe before he entered the tourny which will definitely rise.

Surprised to see James got the W, but happy nonetheless. :D

Nalby could be next, and he beat him earlier this year in DC and has beaten him indoors at YEC 06. Should be a good matchup.

what does the highlighted part mean, stringertom? :?:

i only saw the second set and was surprised that delpo didnt take the match into a third ... BUT ... Blake looked very controlled, purposeful, focused, determined, etc., and his win was well-earned. No need to retire yet! :)

Delpo didnt look as if he was going full out ... perhaps he's devoting this tourney to doubles practice for DC ... he and baggy are third up on centre court tomorrow ... dubs match vs. the israelis erlich and ram ... s/b a good one! :D

I was watching Tennis Channel last night and at the end of the "classic tennis" rewind, the crawl at the bottom said that "Donald Young beat Juan Martin Del Potro" at the Stockholm Open.

I had to rewind a couple of times to be sure.

Donald Young...James Blake...to paraphrase a former Aussie #1: "Look at 'em, mate. You tell me what the similarity is?"

Tomic plays very well (love his slices and redirects), forcing Monfils to shorten the rallies by coming to the net

he should do that MUCH more frequently, if he thinks long term

I think he recognized the youngster might be better than him from the baseline, at least in many rallies

With Wawrinka and JMDP gone, I'm thinking the winner will be either Monfils/Raonic on the top half and Nalbandian on the bottom half.

Cant really predict anyway. I wouldn't mind a Raonic/Nalbandian final, whoever wins :)

Ya it working real well for him, especially with his serve and in the tiebreak. Though it looks very lanky when he does it.

For someone as tall and fast as he is, I'm surprised he doesn't do it more often, with his reach at the net it must be like playing tennis against an albatross.

Monfils played very welll....and used volleying very well. Hoped Tomic would pull through. Would like to see the young guns to battle in the finals.

Ach, gutted for Tomic, it looked like he'd turned it around there.

He'll be ready to take next year by storm though, an 18 year old in the top 50 is phenomenal!
