If you put nylon like Forten in the mains, crossed it w/a poly, how would this pay?

Thank you. I am interested in trying a hybrid that would put the poly in the crosses. But I don't have any gut or multis for the mains. So, I am curious whether nylon works in the mains.

ha, this is exactly what I have in 1 racket... frame is DNX10 mid.

first of all, I believe string performance is very much dependent on the frame.. since the DNX material is quite stiff, having a crisp response from the poly crosses makes sense, while the Forten mains provide the pocketing and the power..... such a set up would be too dead for my old frame the T10 mid, which is more flexible.

Performance wise, it's actually really good, until the poly dies after 3 hours or so, while the mains are notched up a bit and then I just cut them out.

at 57lbs tension, I think I can get a few more hours out of it if I use a crisp syngut as the cross, such as OGSM, PSD, Stamina - which is what I will try in the next few days.

Once the poly cross is dead, it's actually playable in the hot summer weather as it puts a 'flight limit' on the balls.... but it's still a hazard to the elbow.

Once I use up the last few sets of polys, will never touch them with a 10 ft pole.... can't understand how people put up with the silliness of having to cut it out every 3 hours.

My primary set up is Tonic mains... (still haven't found the ideal cross yet - nylon is too soft, poly dies too fast, will try some crisp syngut soon)

So the short answer is, they work quite well, I have 57lbs on the Forten mains, and 55 lbs on either the PH18 or the Scorpion 1.22 cross....... but they only last about 3 hours.

Easy, we (well, at least myself) break them before they hit that mark.

As for the OP's question, what are your reasons for wanting to put the poly in the crosses?

I will believe it when I see it..... I don't see touring pros break polys, and they probably put more stress on the strings over 9 games than a college player does over 3 hours.

We're talking nylon mains, not poly. I would stand on my head if a nylon main lasted me 3 hours.

Ah, you edited... Well, the typical co-poly lasted me about 4-5 hours, and I would invariably shank with any 1st gen poly (hence why I avoid polys that are on the stiffer end) and break near the grommet.

He's actually talking about polys, but yes, I agree, if anything short of poly were to last anymore than 1.5-3 hours, I would be ecstatic.

dude that comment was on Jonny's claim of breaking polys in 3 hours.

on the other hand, for hard hitters nylons won't last 3, but I think I can probably get 5 out of Forten 16.

a set of Tonic usually lasts me 15 hours.

I've broken polys in 4, it's not that unreasonable. Especially co-polys that aren't NEARLY as durable as older polys.

I never claimed I could break polys in three hours, I claimed I could break them before they went dead.

Don't be puttin' words in my mouth dozu, you want all of us to prove how good all of us are, and yet you won't prove how good you are by playing a tourney and taking video.

going off topic slightly - string life is actually quite dependent on the frame stiffness.

when I used to play with the more flexible T10, the pocketing was a lot deeper, and the incoming heavy spin would grind on the strings a lot more before separation, and Tonic used to last me less than 10, and nylon about a couple of hours and was all chewed up (If I play against a heavy hitter, as I don't inject a lot of pace).

with a stiffer frame, the impact feels more 'in and out', and the string life has been quite a bit longer than before.

Uh-huh, I said that I could break them before they hit that mark, aka dead string, not 3 hours. Nice try Mr. Escrow...

post #3 clearly shows you quoting me with '3 hours'. nowhere was the 'dead string' every implied as the 'mark'.

    nice try Mr. show-off

Attempting to hide the fact you are butthurt because someone claims they can break tennis strings faster than you, as if that's pleasant.

    Nice try, Mr. Inferiority Complex.

goodness, I even volunteered with the info that I can get 5 out of Nylon, AFTER you guys claimed that Nylon won't last you even 3, so your theory is clearly flawed.

    Nice try, Mr. Illogical.

by the way, you might have misunderstood when I called him Mr. Show-off..... I didn't refer to Jonny's break-poly-in-3-hour claim, but rather a joke I threw at him in his serve thread.

You went into a tizzy about how fast you misinterpreted Jonny said he breaks polys before I even posted in here.

Nice try, Mr. Avoiding The Issue (Still)

It thought it was implied. I could probably break 1st gen poly in three hours if I played only matches with it.

Now now, I called you Mr. Escrow, and now you're calling me Mr. Show-off. Mr. Escrow is clearly a fact, since you flaunted it all over your thread about yourself. Mr. Show-off is clearly an opinion. You crossed a line Mr.

are you guys gonna jump into bed and kiss each other? Mr. and Mrs. Ganging-up.

Jonny - see above... 'show-off' refers to a joke in your serve thread.

Magic - I didn't misinterpret Jonny, he needs to take an English writing lesson, instead of spending all his time on serve practice..... we can set up a poll, with escrow, on if post #3 refers to '3 hours' or 'dead string'

I know, and it's in poor taste considering how hypocritical that statement could be if someone took it seriously. :p

If you try it, please let us know how it plays. It seems to me that it might work out pretty well. My two rackets strung with Tour Bite have a few hours on them and I'm running low on string. I ordered the two sets of Tour Bite last month and my wife would give me the stinkeye if I ordered any string this month, so when the Tour Bite goes I'll probably restring with a hybird of the only two strings I have left: Forten nylon and Mantis comfort synthetic. I figure I'll order more Tourbite in August and it would really help keep the wife off my back if I could hybrid it with an inexpensive string like Forten Nylon.
