After the third day of the Mid-West Regionals, four Illini men are into the quarterfinals and one doubles team are into the doubles quarters. Great result by the Illini! Page and Kopinski will play each other tomorrow for a spot in the final four.
For the women, Kopinski/White have advanced to the final eight, while Kopinski and Falkin have advanced to the round of 16.

I see that the Illini women picked up a commitment from an in-state five-star recruit.

It really looks like the Illini are going to be what we thought; no #1 or #2 players but a solid #3-6. The one surprise maybe has been the doubles. It was the worst part of the team last year and they didn't even filed 3 doubles teams when they played Notre Dame last year. Could it be a strength this year? It sure needs to be if we have no #1 or #2 yet.

On the pro circuit, Anderson made it to both the singles and doubles quarterfinals at the Swiss Indoors. He gave No. 2 seed Del Potro a run for his money but lost. The results are getting a bit better so hopefully he is on his way back after that dreadful summer.

Dennis Nevolo made it to the quarterfinals of the Birmingham Futures by upsetting #8 seed Danile Nguyen and lost a close 3-setter to the top seed. He also made it to the doubles quarters so good results for him.

Roelofse won the doubles title and is in the singles final at the Nigeria Futures. This is his 7th futures tile this year.

The Illini are playing Texas A&M, Oklahoma and LSU this weekend in the Conference Challenge in college Station this weekend. The Illini site has posted absolutely nothing about it so far so will have to keep an eye on the other sites.

Back in 2007, the ncaa threatened Illinois with no postseason hosting and other things if they didn't get rid of Chief Illiniwek because it was too controversial. So Illinois got rid of the symbols, logos, the Chief, his dance, everything.
Five years later, I came across NCAA football's web store and low and behold, the NCAA is selling Chief Illiniwek stuff on their site.
Just to see if I could, I tried to order a Chief Illinwek ball cap and lo and behold, I soon got a happy email from the ncaa telling me my hat was on its way!
So Illinois had to get rid of the Chief or face the consequences, but the ncaa has no problem selling Chief stuff on it site?

There is something seriously seriously wrong with this picture.

The Illini finished up the Conference Challenge today in College Station, Texas. Over the three days, they finished with a 10-9 record in singles and a 4-5 record in doubles. Hoh and Gosea did not take part. Hiltzik was the only won who a perfect record in singles. He's going to be really good. For some unknown reason, Abdelnour continues to struggle badly. If I had to make a lineup now, he would be in the #4 or #5 singles slot.

Dennis Nevolo is playing in the Futures event in Pensacola, Florida this week.

    Go Illini!

Yeah! Looks like he is finally out of his slump and playing well. Too bad the season ends. #5 Berdych is up next. Anderson took him to 5 sets at the French Open so maybe...

At the Paris Masters, Anderson took the first set 6-1 off of #5 Berdych and I thought hey hey hey! but after that it was 6-3, 6-4 Berdych. Still Anderson has ended his season on an upswing and looking forward to next season!

At the Big Ten Individuals, Abdelnour finishes in the semifinals. Not a great weekend by the Illini but not bad either. Good to see Abdelnour and Guignon back in action again.

If the college tennis scoreboards are right, and in college tennis that's always a big IF, the Illini finish 0-4 and are now packing up to go home. Hope they enjoyed their sightseeing tour of NY.

The JSM Challenger is being played in Champaign this week. All nine present Illini and two former Illini are in the tournament. After qualifying, Dennis Nevolo and Tim Kopinski are in the main singles draw, while Nevolo/Ruben Gonzales, Kopinski/Farris Gosea and Jared Hiltzik/Alex Jesse are in the doubles main draw.

Also, former Illini Rajeev Ram is the second seed in the Keio Challenger in Yokohama, Japan.

I was there for the Hiltzik/Guccione qualifying singles match. I believe Hiltzik got up in the first 5-2 on Guccione with some ridiculously deft passing shots. Guccione simply had no answer up to that point. All of sudden, Hiltzik just stopped defending and attacking the way he had been for most of the set and ended up taking it in tie-break. Needless to say, if he plays during the dual season the way he played most of that set and continues to improve, I believe he'll be a top collegiate player.

For those of you who were following my Illini site. The workload at my job was practically doubled a couple months ago (promotion) and it has become almost impossible to keep up the Illini tennis site I started back in April. I hate to see the whole thing just vanish. If there is anyone who would be interested in taking it over, please contact me and we'll see if we can work something out.

Will always be a Illini tennis fan and I'm very excited about the future of the team! Go Illini!

I know this is an old thread, but does Illinois have anyone coming in this year? Seems strange for a upper level program to bring in nobody.

True story. The Illinois team bus broke down just now on the way to College Station. They are waiting on a new one in rural Texas. (It's every rural from Austin to college station)

Good win by the Illini today. I'll assume that they'll have to face the Buckeyes in the B10 tourney final - not easy to beat a team (3) times in a season. Hope they can pull it off - the Buckeyes have been so strong for a long time.
