This is what made me fall in love w/Raddy fall 2011. Anyone one else it would be a one time lucky shot. For her it's still lucky, but not surprising. I think Vika called her a "little magician" back when they used to be friends.

The Flipkens reaction is so ironic...she's so mad, but her shot was only going in because of a net cord! Otherwise it would have been way out!

Watching Vinci play tonight I can't see how players struggle against her...that backhand is atrocious!

at the same time it's actually nice to see Jankovic playing at a high level again, and smiling while she does it!

    Dear Jankovic,

    Seriously consider retirement from tennis.

She can't because she has that ridiculous house she had built to pay for. How she was able to even afford it considering her career is in the toilet is a mystery.

Mmm yes I noticed her racket has no logo on the strings and her custom-made tennis dresses are a thing of the past. Seems like her endorsements are in the toilet too!

Congrats to JJ it wasnt pretty but she got the job done.

On a side note I didnt like Flipkens reaction, in a situation like that the appropriate thing to do would be applaud your opponent and quickly get ready for the next point. Dropping her racquet and acting like she is a grand slam champ was unnecessary and probably threw her off for the next few games. Give ARad credit and dont dwell on it.

Tournament heading to another Serena-Sharapova final it seems. ZZZZzzzzz. As much as I like to see Serena win that matchup is a total NID. The only good news is both are such big stars the interest brings alot of attention, and from many who are naive enough on tennis to only care about the two big names and stars and not even realize (or care) what a mismatch it has been the last 9 years.

I honestly think Sharapova might beat Jankovic 6-0 6-0.

Not if Maria plays like she did today. Jankovic fought well against Vinci, being down in the second set before at least managing to bring it to a tiebreak, as well as being down in the 3rd set before racking off 6 of the last 7 games to win the match.

I personally would love it if Jankovic beat Shoulderpova somehow tomorrow, and made it a rematch of the 2008 final against Serena :) (assuming Serena makes it past Radwanska)

..then, there's the Sharapova cult who spent that 9 years pretending she was an equal talent to Serena, and continue to hope that one day, she will meet SW in a majors final, defeating SW 6-0, 6-0.

I can't believe Jankovic is 28 years old. Time flies. Seems like yesterday she was an emerging young player. Of course, 28 doesn't mean what it used to. If she wants to, she could probably play until she's 35. But, still, Jankovic is 28:shock: Her prime was a full five years ago. Now, she strikes me as being like Hantuchova. She enjoys the perks of being a fairly high ranked professional, she enjoys playing. She might do well at any given tournament, she might not. She's paid well, she generally enjoys tour life. So, why stop? She doesn't look particularly stressed one way or the other.

Because the longer one plays as a washout at the majors, the career just seems like one of being in denual about reality, or playing to collect checks. Either way, it is not good for a player's reputation or legacy.

She is, but for the long-past-majors-shelf-life reason. When she made her debut, DH was supposed to be some superstar/hard hittler of the future (similar to Dokic), but she was more of a sidehow than anything else.

Williams............... Only way Radwanska wins is if Williams is really really off her game or if Williams does not really care about winning Miami because it is not a slam and really has no legacy value for her at this point.

True, dat! ... Sad but true.

It would be better for Caroline's mental progress if Piotr would just take the money, stand around at practice and stay in the stands at matches ala Richard Williams.

yaaaaaay!!! duncanbell almost got the poll right this time (as opposed to last time when s/he put SWilliams in the "girl" poll tho she wasnt even playing) ...

except there are 10 slots available for poll choices and s/he didnt even include the Top Ten Seeds!

Hint: Biased polls automatically excludes participants who would otherwise be interested. Not really what youre after, Dunc ..... or is it?

I'd say most players play to collect checks. That's why they call them "professional" tennis players. If she's enjoying the the tennis life, that's a nice bonus.

And I doubt Jankovic cares about her "legacy" (I've actually never understood what legacy means in a tennis context, except in reference to someone who somehow changed the game).

In Jankovic's case, her legacy would have recieved a significant boost of note if she won a major. After the disaster that was her being a major-less number one, I think she's desperate to hang in there to salvage what is left of her career--hoping that she can live up to her early hype (of being one of the Serbian "revolution") and manage to win a major.

She probably thinks she's a better technical player than the Soy-named "Generation Suck," which means she would only need to worry about 1 to 3 players if all went well in a draw. Unfortunately, such a thought is not reality, as Jankovic's skills were never top-self at the height of her "powers," and just about anyone can defeat her.

That is the legacy booster which keeps Jankovic playing long after her shelf-life as a contender.

I like how Serena Williams' grunts actually sound like effort, exhaling from the lungs.

Shriekapova "grunts" with her vocal cord. Shut up already.
