    Started this one early!

Although this matchup may be a big disappointment to those (me included) who wanted to see the continuation of this new rivalry of Federer - Nadal, you can turn it and put a positive spin on it: Blake getting into the Top10 and reaching such an important ATP final is a big boost for American tennis.

Blake, by all ccounts is a nice guy, has done amazingly well after his horrific accident, has a monster forehand, much improved serve, brilliant athleticism and speed over the court - now if he can hold it together mentally today, he my cause problems. Last night's win over Nadal will make him really believe he can topple 'The Boss' later today.

They hve only played each other twice and the last time, it was close: 7-6 7-5 to Federer.

I'm going for a 3-set thriller, but Federer's superior tennis will prevail and peak today:
    Federer 4-6 6-3 7-5 Blake

    It's a best-of-five sets match so i'm going to alter your prediction a little bit. 4-6 6-3 7-5 6-1 to Roger ;)

    Doh, Galactus!
Okay...Federer in straight sets. I don't fancy Blake at all over 5: even though he has superior fitness and speed, I can't see his mental-strength holding up. (remember US Open last year?)

A 5-setter featuring Federer and Nadal might've been interesting, but not Blake.

    Revised prediction: Federer 6-3 6-2 7-5 Blake

They cut from tennis early to show other events - how come they can't cut away from NCAA Womens basketball to show the FINAL CHAMPIONSHIP match of a mens ATP tournament?

    WEAK!

It was the same story yesterday when we missed 2 games of the Sharapova final. ESPN consistently provides poor coverage of tennis.

SO rooting for Blake here. His groundstrokes look great so far. Fed not *quite* on his game yet.

I'd only complain if the coverage before the tennis match wasn't live. Otherwise I think it's justified for them to run coverage over the tennis until it's over. They do it for doubleheaders for nba basketball and they do it for tennis too quite frequently. It sucks but I'd hate for my live tennis match to stop coverage just because it was time for the next show to come on. ESPN's coverage at time is questionable but in this case I can understand when the show before it is live.

    Grrr--Fed leads 6-5.

One thing I'm noticing here is that Fed doesn't receive hard, flat returns to his backhand too well. A lot of mis-hits or weak, attackable shots.

Whoa--Fed just hit a crazy underspin drop shot off Blake's drop shot.

And Blake's about to lose the set--brain just left the court. Sigh.

Seems to me like Blake doesn't have the self-confidence to believe that he can actually beat Federer. Thus, the mental meltdown after being up two breaks in the first set. Blake was scared to death that he might win the first set against the mighty Federer, and so got nervous and fell apart. Anyway, that's what it seemed like to me.

Don't know if it's really that good for Blake--he doesn't have the best endurance. But yeah, any time you lose the first set, you gotta be glad it's 3-of-5.

I agree, but I don't think it's coming out THAT much in his game except for his netplay--which is where most of the critical errors have come. He did have the double faults, but he also had some really bold, strong serves too. He just looks really scared and indecisive up at net today.
