    J,

I got through to the semis of the Tiger Open tonight. Look out man, I'm coming for your top 10 ranking. LOL.

I play your buddy Stroynick tomorrow, although that's probably the end of the line. He lost one game in two matches (and looked good doing it...), while I was on court for 3 1/2 hours.

I still can't believe I lost that match against him.

It may be the only time in my life I have lost a match one break per set and won more points than my opponent.

It was the most bizzare set of circumstances I have ever experienced, and I was walking off the court, and I was so happy because I played so awesomely, after playing so horribly the night before, and I couldn't grasp the concept that somehow I lost.

Anyhow, I am sure you will like him, we were hitting in the warmup and I said "Dude, let's just go to the desk and tell them we called it a tie, and practice for a couple of hours"

I only met him that one time, but for sure a great guy.

Just looked at the draw for my tourney, lots of close matches. I would have had a good shot at this one if I knew how to serve lol.

Hope the kid that beat me wins, he was a really good kid.

What was it about your serve that was problematic? Double faults?
Were you ever close to breaking his serve? Was he somehow able to win the
    games that went to deuce?

Have you tried hitting the ball inside the little box? That helps when serving.:)

    Jolly.

Beautiful to see you have a roadmap and some goals.

Have a few questions for ya from someone who has the same bits of aspiration as you as a rec player.

I'm 26 now, consistently playing 3.5(tournament)/4.0(league) level, aim to play AT LEAST 3x a week, usually i capitalize on most of my free time to dedicate to tennis. As a recording studio assistant, it doesn't show, but i'm already seeing my boss feeling a bit irritated that i use a lot of free time playing tennis instead of focusing on my recording craft, and using the extra time to invest in that side of life. yada, yada, yada

Just curious to see what life was like for you at my age (26) and what has changed between then and now. Does your Tennis playing ever interfered with your career and have you ever regretted the sacrifices you had to make on the way.

Obviously 5.0 is a great level to be at in 2+ years, but in Chicago, where the tennis scene is nothing compared to NY, 4.5 has consistently been the peak, so the peak is not as high.

Just curious to see the path that lead you from then to where you are now and how you managed it.

    Yarr,

    -Ty

How old are you? I'm 22 and started playing 3 years ago off and on.
I want to play in a few tournaments before I'm 30. I have a natural talent for picking up sports, and I'm wondering if it's possible.

It's entirely possible. Find your NTRP rating and join some of the many rating-level tournaments there are out there. I too started at 19 and play about 15 tournaments a year.

I don't know about Jolly, but I am in another open tournament this weekend. I drew a college kid in the first round. Wait until he beholds the power of the 4.0 #1 singles man!

Jolly apparently has died. He stopped posting his updates and we will miss him.

Best of luck to you. My advice is cheat like crazy. You might **** him off and throw him off his game.:)

I was the subject of the "4.0 #1 singles" video that has been mercilessly ridiculed on here for years. The same guy filmed a 3.5 match and called the first line singles match "3.5 #1 singles". That video includes one of the worst line calls in the history of recorded tennis.

My most likely path in this tournament is:

    1st rd (Fri) - SS - D3 college player
    2nd rd (Sat) - RI (2) - 4.5 league player
    3rd rd (Sat) - RG - 5.0 league player
SF (Sun) - RS - D3 college player (top 2 singles)
    F (Sun) - DF (3) - 3-star recruit class of '11 or AT (1) - former D1 player

As a 4.0, my chances in ANY of these matches is 50-50 at best. I can hope to compete against the D3 kid who is not one of the top players on the team and the 4.5 guy, but if I somehow make it to the 3rd round (again at best a 25% chance to start with), you gotta think that's the end of the line for me.

Also, the seeding in this tournament is kind of screwed up, IMHO. Looking at the records, it's pretty clear that the 1 and 3 seeds are far and away the best players in the tournament and they are both in the top half. 2, 4, 5, 6, & 8 are just 4.5 league players, none of whom has a particularly outstanding record, when there is an unseeded 5.0 league player in the draw as well as a couple fairly high ranked juniors, and 7 is a college kid who plays lower on his team than his unseeded teammate who was a semifinalist here 2 years ago. But whatever, that is someone else's concern. I am clearly one of the weakest players in ANY of these open tournaments, so it's not like I think I should be seeded. LOL.

Oh, come on, that's not nice. He's a real nice guy, and it was a fun match, but alas, the mystique of the 4.0 #1 singles just was not intimidating enough, and he pulled it out 3-6 6-4 10-3. He had a typical college game with big topspin shots, nice inside-out forehand, big topspin serve, etc, while I was out there hacking and whacking and blocking and chipping my way through the match. I played pretty well, but just not well enough. I had chances. I got his serve to deuce at 3-2, 4-3, and 5-4 in the 2nd, but give him credit, he got the points he needed to get and held on in the 2nd and really turned up his game in the tb. I think he has a chance in the next match, but he needs to cut down his UFEs to go really deep in this tournament.

Yeah, like I said, I played pretty well, but he just played better when it counted. He's tall, like 6'3" or 6'4", and I got a lot of points by hitting short balls to bring him into the net and then hitting dippers at his feet and making him volley up. Well, when we got to the tb, he hit 3 winners off those low volleys. What can I do? That's a hard time to find a new game plan when he took away one of the primary winning strategies that I had for the whole match.

I've spoken to J011y and here is his update:

"Absence diminishes little passions and increases great ones, as the wind extinguishes candles and fans a fire..."

He is injury free according to our latest communique.

He extends thanks to all of his fans, domestic and international for their concern. he cannot respond to all emails unfortunately, but know that you are in his thoughts, all of you.

    He will be back.

Jolly has given up tennis. He came out of hiding at the 5.0 level and tried to compete against a rated 3.0 and lost badly. His enemies video'd the entire match. They gave Joly a choice, stop playing tennis and they will not post the videos on youtube or continue playing and the will expose him for the fake 5.0 that he is. Jolly has decided to quit tennis. His enemies gave hired a full time detective to follow his every movements. Jolly cannot ever play tennis again. He must also submit 3 months in advance his itinerary so that they can do surprise inspection of his hands to check for tennis callous.

In addition, he is not to enter a tennis court for any reason except to give blood. Last week, his Mom was playing tennis in Florida and she broke her ankle. She was in pain but Jolly couldn't enter the court, the detective was hiding the bushes. Jolly's Mom had to crawl out of the court, before Joly could carry her to the car.

Jolly situation is looking rather grim, if you know how to contact the people from Leverage, Burn Notice, or best yet, the A Team please email me.

I'm not joking. He can't play tennis more. The HOLY STDs have banned him from tennis.

The HOLY STD have unanimously voted to impose a "No Play Zone" over the entire world for Jolly. When they build tennis courts in space or on the moon or Mars, then Jolly can play there.

Starting today, numerous missle strikes have been carried out against tennis courts, public and private, through out Long Island. An SUV, full of women's 3.5 was fired upon by French Holy STD jet plane.

Deep underground, in his bunker, Jolly vowed to keep on hitting against the wall to keep sharp.
