Instead of silicone

    Do you guys think it would be possible to use a 3d printer and make custom inserts for pallets? I like modding and dont like digging out the silicone would a dense plastic be enough to dampen like silicone?

    anyone got an idea?

    also would you put a pallet on your racquet that was printed by a 3d printer?

    Unless you had your own 3d printer and appropriate 3d moddeling skills, I can't see how this could be an economical solution...

    Just use the Blue Tack if the silicone wasn't your cup of tea.

    3D printer to customize a racquet???? I am sensing a advanced level of racquetoholism here! LOL!!:):):)

    I am guessing, even if 3D printer is a viable solution, still the cost would be very high. If you have that kind of money, I would still suggest you to use silicone. If you mess up, no need to dig-out silicone! You can just buy another brand new racquet with the spare money.... and sell the messed up one on the forum!

    If your intention is just to make the racquet more headlight (and don't care about silicone feel), then best thing to do is add lead tape below the replacement grip in a sprial approximately 7 inch above the buttcap. That way you can easily remove if you don't like it....

    BTW, I exactly know where you are coming from. After reading all the raving about adding silicone on this forum, I have tried it myself couple of times. Didn't like it. Had to dig it out and it's painfully tedious. Now I just rely on the lead tape. You can also try BluTac as suggested by others...

    Common extrudable thermoplastics (ABS, PLA) aren't as dense as silicone.

    Frame cavity also differs, no 2 alike with usual airfilled manufacturing process.

    btw there are solvents that can make silicone sealants go spongey for
    easier removal postcure; no idea if it'll damage frame finish or glassing though


    Sure, ABS & PLA should be workable if you're after a custom shape.

    However 3Dp isn't cheap for mass production, it's just a prototyping tool
    so you can test it before getting your product tooled up for injection moulding...

    You could just get moldable plastic and shape it anyway you want by hand.

    I just spoke to someone about making pallets and was told it would only be ~$6-7 dollars to replicate an tk82S or tk57 pallet most of the time would be machine time 4-6 hours to print but since you only have to be there at the start to set the machine up should be no problem. I will follow up with this and get some samples made.

    Is this by a 3D printer?

    I hear those things are just for making prototypes and won't produce anything durable.

    ahh well I think you could handle it 2 ways print the pallets and see how durable they are or print a mold of the pallets and take them to somewhere like TapPlastic and have them fill the molds which might be even cheaper.....

    My Uni has small 3d printers about 7x7inch..... we always print small intricate designs...a simple pallet should be no prob

    i was wondering if anyone has tried printing a whole racquet!! now that would be an exercise...given they can 3d print guns now...i wonder how they will hold up since its plastic??? manufacturers would be nonplussed at the thought...though it is the way of the future i think...DIY digitally customed racquets lol....make your own racquet company from your basement lol...
