I'm quite interested to see Isner vs Baghdatis, Gulbis vs Youzhny, and Harrison vs Cilic. We could see some upsets there, or at least some long matches.

(getting the draw from Wikipedia btw, so don't blame me if I'm wrong :))

    [EDIT]

Didn't realise the US Open site had posted it yet, dunnah!

I think the Dodig-Davy encounter will be decent. I'm going Dodig for the upset

The USO Site finally fixed the links :)

Thanks for this. I was just about to start a new thread asking for the most interesting 1st round matches to see live since I've got USO day session tickets for Monday.

In terms of potentially seeing a really close, evenly-matched, dramatic 5-setter, are there other match-ups (such as between 2 unseeded players) anyone would add to this list?

These may be good candidates for unseeded or seeds outside top 8:
    Granollers-Malisse
    Monaco-Seppi
    Falla-Troicki
    Nieminen-Verdasco
    Llodra-Hanescu
    GG Lopez-Traver
    Benneteau-Almagro

More after the qualies are complete

I'll watch Davy-Dodig, it will be a good one.

Murray might find Devvarman hard to put away, #4's sometimes vulnerable in early rounds. It will be worth watching, at least; expect some stylish play from the underdog.

Devvarman is a very gutsy player. If Murray serves well I see straight sets for Murray though.

This will be a good first round match for Murray, IMO. He was complaining about not enough match play last week. Somdev will run him around the court. Murray will need to be aggressive if he wants to win in straight sets.

Golubev can be dangerous when he is on... especially his big single handed backhand...

Yeah that's their secrets to success.

Golubev is great, love to watch his encounter vs Nadal. Another heavy topspin forehand vs 1HBH affair.

Bogomolov continues a summer of easy draws. He gets Steve Johnson in the first round, who's not even ranked in the top 500 - how the heck did he get in? He isn't even ranked high enough to be a qualifier, and it's not like he's 18, the guy is 21. Then in round 2 he gets a qualifier or an injured Soderling.

LOL! Golubev is just reinitiating his second effort to take the crown for consecutive ATP losses. After Ralph, he'll only be 20 or so behind Spadea again.

Just wondering how much of a fight the 1HBHer can put up.

I think the NCAA singles winner, if he's American, automatically gets a WC into the USO. IIRC, Devon Britton got in a couple of years ago.

Bogomolov has had a good year, beat Tsonga recently, has qualified at several big events and won matches, it's not like he's taken WC's and lucked through, he's been solid.

Bud, I think you listed nine 1st round battles...I've got about double that have me scratching my head! I'd definitely head to the Stepanek/Kohly match if I were there...or Monaco/Seppi...or Andujar/Ferrero...or go buy DirectTV so I can watch them all.

There's nothing here as scintillating as that first-round Aussie matchup of Nalby and Hewitt (long live Nalby!), but I shall surely will be tuning in to Harrison and Cilic, and Gasquet and the underrated Stakhovsky. Well, I'll be tuning in to the former match; I doubt our capricious television networks will show the latter. But I'm sensing (or at least hoping for) for an upset in both.

Really looking forward to seeing Harrison vs Cilic and Bogie vs Johnson. Gulbis/Youzhny too but I doubt they'll show more than 30 seconds of it.
