You can reset it to factory settings. Plug it in to iTunes, then press restore (it's under check for updates).

Thanks, but is this not the same as doing it on the actual handset? Settings> General> Reset ?

Easiest to do it as you describe. That's how I did it. Phone is wiped and fresh ready for the buyer.

My 4s sold in 10 minutes for $399 buy it now on the Bay. I was shocked.

It went very smooth. Buyer was happy and I was happy to have the cash. They got an incredible deal as I threw in $250 worth of accessories.

If you have AppleCare you can get a prorated refund for that here.

^^ Thanks. I won't get nearly as much for my plain old 4 as you did with your 4S. Great result for you.

Funnily enough, I'm not looking for either a Galaxy SIII or iPhone 5...GOOGLE NEXUS 4 ANYBODY ? :)

If your phone is locked to a particular network and you have the option to unlock it, do it now. It will add value to the sale, and make the buyer's life a lot easier.

That is so sick. I posted my EVO lte on baybay with extra charger, case, Sim card.etc and had to wait the full 5 days to get $200. The value on these phones is awful. The S3 will probably fare much better even though the evo is basically on par in about every way.

Not sure whether the Apple users have read about this but Apple have re-jigged their top level mamagement recently.

From a users point of view, the most interesting change must be Jonathan Ive taking over complete responsibility for all 'human interface' aspects of Apple products including the UI and design of iOS (Apple have fired the previous guy). That's a bit of an admission that iOS has fallen behind its rivals in some/many/all respects (no widgets, no live tiles etc).

I'd gladly pass on widgets and tiles for better performance and battery life. Thats just me, since I had that experience already.

iOS is dated in some ways, but I consider it much more secure due to these restrictions.

I dont know..its a debate on preference at this point. I never used or cared for live wallpapers since they drained more battery and some people cant get enough. No one is right or wrong.

Live wallpapers are different to widgets and live tiles.

Widgets and live tiles are there to provide instant (live) information and instant functionality which the user can adjust or resize etc depending on their requirements.

Live wallpapers are just pretty pictures. They're pretty but I'm not a fan of them as I agree they just waste computing/battery power since they run 24/7. I also prefer a plain background for contrast rather than a 3D fishtank with moving fish or whatever.

Interestingly, the journos are saying that Apple may well have a complete redesign of their existing icon styles. Eg. no more pictures of bookshelves for books, no more leather bound journal icons for journals etc. The Ives appointment could go really well or really badly, because he's known for his industrial minimalism and simplicity. Have to say that its a real shame that no one like Jobs is still around to balance out the strengths/weaknesses of the others such as Cook (operational and production efficiency and margins), Ive (industrial design) etc. Every great company needs a team with complimentary skills, and I don't think they've replaced their visionary.

Except that you referred to widgets and live tiles.

I'm starting to think that you had a poor/duff/lower end version of the Android phones because your comments are so negative. Android phones are not created equal. I've never had any battery issues with the S2 (best Android phone when I bought it) and I use mine with a ton (together with widgets, music/video players, sat/nav, bluetooth etc). It also never struggles for performance even with live wallpapers, widgets or whatever. Again, it had the most powerful processor / chipset at the time. The top end Samsungs don't lack for hardware.

And the S3 has an even bigger battery with longer battery life and an even more powerful processors. It's never going struggle for performance.

Whereas I do know alot of people who have struggled with battery life on iPhone 1-4S.

Widgets, live tiles and live wallpaper are all the same to me. That is the point i was trying to make. I honestly dont miss them in any way. I know the difference between the 3 but i go rid of all my widgets except the wifi toggles and spotify, which was not really much of a difference. Live wallpapers look nice but drain your battery. Like i said, it is my personal opinion. I dont miss any of those features.

And i had the htc evo and the htc evo lte. Look up their reviews on engadget. They are top end droid phones and compete directly with samsung. The articles will show you that when you read them.

While we are on semantics, I would just slide in the fact that HTC Evo and HTC Evo LTE are Android smartphones, but not "Droids". It's a marketing difference, but a difference nonetheless. Likewise, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is not a droid.

"Droid" is a label that applies to a certain subset of smartphones on Verizon.

    Peace.

They're not the same thing, so what you're saying makes absolutely no sense.

In fact most of your replies in this thread are fast becoming the equivalent of someone who puts their hand over their ears and sings 'lalalalalalalala...' in response to anything people say to them.

Why are you getting like this? I had an android phone for 4 years. I know all about the features you are describing and i don't miss them. What else do you want me to say? You want to get angry over semantics, be my guest, but all i ever said was it was personal preference.

I have experienced both os's and i prefer ios. It just suits how i use my phone.

Rozroz, looks like what we are looking for is no longer available on Android devices either. As of August this year, Android devices will no longer have flash support.

That's a shame. Lshunter does not give a damn that flash is obsolete, I doubt they will change their format anytime soon. Especially not to accommodate mobile users. So, I guess we will have to stick to PC-streaming.

Hmm, maybe Windows Phone has flash support, but I am not so sure about that OS.

I was at a bar the other night and the guy asked me what phone I was using. After I told him the iPhone5, he goes I got the Galaxy S3 and I sell them 4 to 1 over the iPhone5. Why are you Android types so married to your phone? It is creepy and I suggest therapy Mr. Torres. :)

He makes perfect sense to me. Halloween Widgets and boorish Live Tiles are for little kids. Useful apps are for adults and GOATish people.

Everything about Apple I like a lot except the phones. The problem with the iPhone 5 is the small screen size, I mean if they made a 4.5 inch screen I would have considered buying it. I think with the 5s, Apple should come out with 2 different screen sizes, one 4 inch and a 4.8 inch screen to give consumers a choice similar to the s3 and mini version.

Using a bigger screen phone like the s3 over the ip5 has so many advantages. Watching tennis highlight videos on youtube, viewing photos, and browsing the web are way better experiences on a bigger screen. Also the YouTube app on android blows the socks off the ios app.

Not sure that its creepy but its definitely weird that some people set so invested in a phone. I agree that some therapy could be in order. It's certainly weird that people are so attached to their iPhones to the point of denial, but then again, any product that attracts a load of people camping out in front of a store 24 hours before its launch is going to have a higher proportional of, shall we say 'fanatical' types?

Give me an iPhone and I'll happily use it. Give me an S3 and I'll happily use that as well.

But to say widgets/live tiles are not a useful function because one particular person does not use it is just denial to be point of stupidity. It's just a flawed argument. Want 50 widgets on your screen? Go for it. Want 10? Go for it. Want 1? Go for it. Want a load of pumpkin backgrounds on your screen? Knock yourself out. You have a choice. There's not a debate to be had here because they are a useful function which you can adjust, turn on/turn off to your heart's content. It's like baulking at having A/C in cars by saying that you can wind the window down instead.

Want maps that work? Get the S3 or iPhone with TomTom (at cost), because iPhone native maps don't work particularly well. It's a non-argument to say 'Well, I don't use maps'.

A replaceable battery or non-replaceable battery? It's a no brainer. It's a non-argument to say 'Well, I turn the brightness down to min, uninstall everything and limit my usage so that I never run out of battery'.

There are loads of things about the iPhone that could be much better. That is a fact!

As for the S3, the UI could be more user friendly and less geeky. Some of the app integration isn't as tight as it could be but that's the difference between a largely open development system and Apple's walled garden.

Always room for improvement and development in both camps. Just too many people in this thread getting too attached to their metal and plastic devices and going into denial.

How am i in denial when i owned both phones? Lol. That makes zero sense. If android was so great for me, why would i have switched? Have you owned both phones? Wouldnt i be more qualified to post here than someone who has not? Oh wait, my opinion is different.

Have to agree with dali here. This is getting childish.

Its ironic that hes crying and moaning about people that take their phones so serious but at the same time is sounding his barbaric yawlps from the rooftops of the Internet about widgets changing mankind.

Yeah, and maps works great for me. It has not done me wrong yet. I have never adjusted the brightness on my screen or had to make any adjustments for battery besides turn off bluetooth (which i simply dont use).

Comparing widgets to having A/c in cars is really a low point in this thread..lol.

You STILL sore at being called out for constantly posting GIFs in every thread at some lame attempt a wit?

    Dear Sir,

    I don't poast GIFs.

They are an old wretched file type and not worthy of my time.

Just admit that widgets are an integral part of your life, and go about your business.

    Thanks,

JPEGs, PNGs, pictures of upside cats with silly slogans beneath them that have nothing to do with the thread....whatever gets your juices flowing.

I can imagine you chuckling as you construct each post, trawling through www.dumbpicswithslogans.com trying to find a picture thinking its going to be so funny.

And then when you do post, its neither funny, nor witty. And everyone ignores you.

    Neither.

Some people it is easy to figure out the car type and brand they drive and the phone and computer they choose.

What does this mean? Some peope have a self-image they maintain. It is part of presentatiion management.

Somen women will wear those f me shoes and thongs even if both are uncomfortable with the later making the wearer more prone to "v" infections.

People do not make "rationally objective" decisions, most make "consistent self-servingly self-congruent" decisions.

Don't be fooled by the people telling you the Nexus 7 is as good and save the money. The Apple experience is still SO much better than the Nexus. Feel good about your mini.

I have a Nexus 7 that I use to develop work applications - since we are too cheap to buy iPhones for our workers, so they get Androids (unless you're an executive, then you get an iPhone).

Have mini on order but I'm thinking why am I spending so much money on the mini when I can just use this $250 Nexus like my iPad? So I tried.

On paper it's got all the right specs. The major apps are all there. Why not?

Just like Apple used to say, the i<stuff> "just works". 70% of the Nexus is a struggle:

    * Mail is fine. No issues there. Except that you get a gMail app and a mail app. Spent a while trying to add my imap mail to the google mail app before I realized there was an other app for email. Got that now.

    * Web browser (chrome) is OK. But text is not much better than the mini (a little). Still need to expand it to read. What's really missing is the READER feature of Safari. Works brilliantly to give you nice readable web page on the mini.

    * Tried to watch a movie off my DLNA server. First go off to the Play store. Download and install the highest rated app or two. Klunky interface but finds my server. Try to play. No video player embedded in the DLNA app. Huh? Need to use a separate add on video player. Download one. Works crappy. Plays one type but not the other. Download another one. Plays both but has all kind of weird screens before and after playing. Oh yeah, neither seems to remember where I stopped off if I stop a movie mid way. No 30 second forward or skip buttons. Download a few more video players. Ugh. Finally have one that sees to work.

Whoops, accidentally got into screen shot mode on this player. Takes a picture. Pops up again. Hit cancel, takes another picture. Stuck in loop. Reboot. Now have about 10 screenshots in some folder somewhere. Have to go download a file app to find the pictures and delete them.

Now I'm using the tablet in portrait. Every time I play a video it spins over to landscape mode. Have to turn tablet. Stop playing. Goes back to portrait, turn back. No way to stop it from turning sideways.

Figure, let's just use the ABC app and watch it there. Nothing in the play store from ABC networks. Lots of kid games and apps from local affiliates. Give up on that.

    I could go on...

Now I know some of this is just finding the good apps. I also know that your common apps like Groupon, maps, Angry birds are going to be OK. But it's still the wild west out there on a Nexus.

***It's designed by engineers and that's exactly how it behaves.****

It's gotten better over the years. Android 4.x is usable. But it still is a hassle.

Back to the iPad with great relief. Blood pressure down. Extra $100, not feeling so bad about that...

What's interesting to me is that despite the S3's remarkable processor and computing power, in every S3/i5 comparison review video I have watched, the i5 loads webpages faster than the S3 and sometimes by pretty large margins.

All that means is that the iphone is newer than the Samsung.

High end phones basically leap-frog each other.

The thing about the Android world is that its got a host of affordable alternatives to the high end models.

Its a better deal for those who don't have corporations paying their phone bills.

Many people on this thread are not paying their own phone bill, but the reality is that these phones are expensive and not particularly useful purchases.

I think you admitted using the phone mostly to look at tennis matches, so you can do what you like but its not exactly what a corporation might pay for.

A lot of cell phone usage is discretionary and engaged in by people who could put their money to better use.

I pay my own phone bill and it is laughable for anyone on a tennis gear forum to give financial advice. You dont know anything about us or our careers, and went for a mass generalization instead.

Making a judgement based on empirical evidence.

Cells have gone from being work equipment to being play equipment and there is high useage and high bills among those who really can't afford them.

This has been well documented as has the high consumer complaint levels due to bill shock occasioned by deceptive marketing.

This part is true, unfortunately. Cynics would say that "deceptive marketing" is a redundant phrase, and perhaps it is those cynics who are being hired by Verizon, TMobile, AT&T and the lot.

It's quite disgraceful that they have such a low opinion of the intelligence of their customer base. Anyone who reads the small print on their ads can tell that the truth is often different from what is claimed in the ad.
