I'm not going to bash all droids or anything, but I had the last latest and greatest HTC One last year, and I'd tread real carefully.

They released my phone with some issues. No biggie, thats how it goes. Then they basically say that it will never get upgraded past ICS. Ok, that sucks. THEN they decide 6 months later - "hey let's release a new version of this phone that actually doesnt slow down randomly and suck battery down like a slurpee". total face slap to the people that purchased the first one.

My opinion - avoid HTC until they prove themselves again. If I went droid (which I never will again), I'd go with the proven winner in samsung. the build quality is still plastic. People who say the iphone feels like a toy, I dont get. The iphone is the most solid of those 3 phones to me. Simply touch all 4 sides of all 3 phones. the iphone 5 has zero plastic..the HTC has a plastic backing and you can't even pull that battery out.

But even though there are a ton of haters ..etc, I am still absolutely in love with this iphone 5. It just matters what you want. I feel like people who are more engineer and build oriented are droiders, and the more creative artistic types are Apple. Just my experience. I have delved down the same path in music, and it's PC vs Mac - a giant battle. I have gone PC to save $$$ every time, and I love it, but after I get to a mixdown and a client is asking me for stems w/in 2 hours and a I get a bluescreen of death...long story short, I have made a savings account for a macbook pro.

Anyway, point being - I'd go w/ the S4 based on my past experience with HTC.

I thought about doing this but I dont want to pay the early upgrade fee. I've had the s3 now since around September and havent had any issues. I mostly browse the web, watch youtube videos like old Sampras matches, and play games. I came from the iphone 4 so it was different. The iphone 5 is a decent phone but I don't like the small screen and personally I like the android operating system more. I don't know if I could switch back to the iPhone, the os could use an overhaul, its not really a whole different than 2007.

Both the s4 and htc one look really nice, you really cant go wrong with either one. I like how the htc one has the speakers on the front of the phone.

I agree, the S3 is plenty of phone for me aswell. It would only of been around £60 to upgrade, which i'd of been happy to pay, but the improvements in the S4 didn't really blow me away enough.

If someone is looking for a new phone, the new HTC and S4 are both great choices. As you say though, moving from the S3 up to an S4 isn't a big enough step up to justify the cost and things like transferring pictures, music etc.. over to a new device.

Transferring pictures and music? Eh? Takes about 5 mins to transfer.

You're right! It wouldn't take any time really, it's all on the SD card, which you just switch over. As a longtime iPhone user before the S3, i'm used to having to upload everything to a computer and go through all the Apple guff, wait for it to upload, set up the new phone, download everything on to it etc..

Yet another thing I prefer about the S3 :)

Does this work even if you have Verizon as carrier and your 2 year contract is not up yet ? I have S3 and agree that differences aren't huge but that camara is so much better on S4 and resolution on the screen is much better too.
If the fee isn't crazy high, I am willing to upgrade

It could be the same, here in the UK they usually do things like that, so I would imagine you would get something similar over there. I know on the Samsung website they offer to buy your old phone from you, and give you a newer device if you pay the difference. I'm not sure how much extra it would be, but if it's a newish phone like the S3 you're trading in, I can't imagine it being too much.

Yeah, there are many options. You could physically swap the SD card or simply copy the contents via PC. Or you can using Kies which will backup/restore everything from contacts to photos, music, data files etc. Same with Kies Air.

Alot of stuff is also linked to your Google account, so as soon as you login to a new phone, it will give you the option of restoring contacts (linked to you Google account) together with purchased apps etc. Not sure about you but alot of my music/video library is now cloud based eg. Amazon Cloud Player, Microsoft SkyDrive, Dropbox etc. The flexibility and range of options is vast compared to iOS6.

My only gripe is that I'd like faster data transfer speeds from SD card > MicroUSB > USB2.0. File transfers via the lightening connector (I do like that connector) on the iPad4 seem to be faster for some reason. Maybe they've improved this on the S4.

Yeah i'm the same, there are a few things on Dropbox. Nice to know how simple it will be to transfer everything over, when I do eventually upgrade.

My sister actually got an iPhone 5 on Tuesday, it feels amazing in the hand, as you would expect from Apple. The iOS is still a problem for me though, I know people who still have a 3GS and apart from the speed/higher resolution screen, to me they could be the same phone. She seems very happy with it though, which is all that matters.

I know! I'm amazed how many people there with shattered screens. That design of running the glass right to the edge of the phone does not make for durability if you drop it.

I've seen alot of those too, funny thing is that they seem to still work the same! Screen replacements are pretty expensive, so I can understand why they just leave it.

Board with the X phone already. Motorola has been talking this thing up forever like the did with the Bionic which was all the rage and now that it's out it's been completely ignored when it comes to the Android updates.

I'd avoid Motorola Android/ Droids at all cost. Their cameras are mediocre and they are the last ones to get the Android updates. The Bionic is still on ICS and Jelly Bean still hasn't even been given a time for when it will be rolled out.

The rumor is that the camera is going to be one of the best available and that it will be the instrument for the roll out of Key Lime Pie. I'm not tired of it yet since I don't know what it will be.

Opinions and smartphones are so subjective :) it's great.

My sister was going out with friends tonight, she asked me to take pictures on the S3 as she doesn't like the camera as much on her iPhone 5. I personally find the size of the iPhone strange, the screen seems too long. When browsing everything seems squashed together and navigating around a website is a pain. Those things, plus the iOS, which to me is the real meat of a phone/computer, works but feels about 3 years out of date means I won't be going back to Apple whilst these trends continue.

Maybe the 6 will be a total revamp and i'll be more than happy to change, but for now I just couldn't get on with it.

I have a year-old Motorola Razr Maxx and love it. It's a sturdy manly phone with a very nice camera. Easily the nicest phone I've ever owned.

And it just got a major Android update a few days ago, though nothing much seemed to change on the user experience side except the font on the clock.

I used this phone for a year and LOVED it. I do miss the easy power button on the side to unlock it and its durable feel.

I've been using the HTC Droid DNA the past month and love that too. the pictures are better than the razr maxx, but the sheer built to perfection quality that motorola has in their OS doesn't compare to HTC imo. HTCs are pretty but don't feel as sharp as the motorola razr maxx (pun intended). I love the blazing speed of this quad core DNA and love the big screen, but also loved the razr maxx as well.

I would like to try the Galaxy sIV as thats gonna be super awesome with the 1.9ghz quad core processor and crazy resolution screen but am stuck w/this one for a while.

The S4 is just gimmicky. Its not worth upgrading from an S3 at all. Only thing in it is the features. But, this isn't the same as the International/Korean version of the phone. Packs a Octacore processor yet no app is even close to capable to using that Octacore to good use. The HTC One is something new. Unlike the S4 which design has barely changed in comparison to the S3, the HTC One's design is completely outstanding/different. I'm not too sure about this alleged "UltraPixel" idea, but it works for me if the camera produces good quality pictures. With its all aluminum body, its built like a tank. Smartphone companies are aiming towards the camera market to take down DSLR cameras and whatnot from what i noticed. The only thing i'm disappointed in is the battery life. Dear lord make it better.

Yeah, I said earlier in the thread that the S4 is kind of like what Apple do with their 3Gs/4s way of doing things, so an S3.5 in many ways :)

The health features on the new model are interesting, but i'm more than happy with the myfitnesspal app, amongst others.

I'm hoping they've got something up their sleeve for the S5.

the Iphone 5 was definitely a relative setback for Apple.

Its only = or < to the best Androids.

Apple needs to step up their game for the 6!

Never been a fan of the iPhones... and picked up an original HTC EVO after I got tired of replacing my Blackberries due to moisture issues under the keyboard. (I refused to wear a holster for them and keeping them in my front pockets sent two of them to an early grave).

A few friends have the S3, and I'm not impressed with them.

Since the wifi on my EVO has finally called in quits, I'll be replacing it with either an EVO 4G LTE or, the new HTC One, depending on the price difference.

A Galaxy Mega is allegedly coming out in June(ish) with a 6.3 in. display. I think i read somewhere on here a while back about this being released.. Galaxy Note 3 with a 5.9 display. Until they start focusing on battery life, i will stick with my N4.

My wife has an i4 and I have an S2. We have lots of fun poking fun at each other's devices.

She likes the i4 for the size - it just fits in her hand better than any other phone. She isn't interested in the i5 or a larger android specifically for that reason.

I tell everyone the same thing... try a phone out - how does it feel? Fit in your pocket/purse?

What are your other most important needs - physical keyboard (you think it is - but it isn't), screen size? Carrier? Voice/data plan?

All those go into the final decision. There is no 'best' phone - just a best choice per consumer.

That said - I agree with some comments that iOS is getting really old. No question that the latest versions of Android have surpassed iOS. Then again - if all you've ever known is iOS - then it will continue to meet your needs.

A lot of the software features are mostly superfluous... after you've chosen a device based on look, feel, carrier, etc... I'd be surprised if any major additional feature is much of a factor.

Siri is a great example - sounds GREAT - but in practice if 90% of the time its just going to ask to search the web - then - google voice search is a lot more efficient - and probably does a better job of speech recognition.

All of that said - if I were Apple - I'd be extremely concerned - because outside the die-hard fanboy base... Apple is no longer ahead of the competition.

I had juice defender. It was ok. didn't change too much on my end. I had my HTC rooted and set up really well.

The droids are awesome for people that like to tinker with their phones and change stuff up.

I realized that I am not that guy, so the iphone suits me better.

all the phones are killer now, so i agree with the above post. It just matters what works for you.I will say that apple made same huge strides with battery life, because the i5 is incredible for me. I heard the 4 and 4s were struggling with battery life.

I just saw the poll results... the fact that the iphone and S3 are in a dead heat speaks volumes.

Who'd a thought that ANY single device would be staying even with the iphone - just 2 years ago?

That's because you don't use it or have ultra dim screen settings or everything turned off. Then again iOS6 is so basic in terms of features there are no background processes to use power. Reminds me of my Motorola from 10 years ago. I could go for a week on a single charge.

False..My screen is not dim at all and I use the heck out of it.

god, I hate when someone tells me how I use my phone. I post on here with it at times, I have a bunch of apps I use ..run spotify all day. Im not making things up to sell iphones..its just my personal experience.

Ill add my phone died on me last weekend. I attempted 3 straight days off the charger. That failed around 10pm of day 3.

My I4 lasted 3 days while camping. Music playing, a bit of angry birds. May be because i didnt turn on my data since i went camping ( no reception ) and i used airplane mode. Watched some downloaded videos and everything was still a go. Only used the I4 for approx. 4 months until i switched.

The last time iLooked, Apple used the same battery technology as everyone else (though you have to send it back to Apple and pay $100 if the battery ever needs replacing), and that they didn't have any special tomato sauce in their batteries that made them last longer.

41 pages of short battery life issues from none other than the Apple forums: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4334782?start=0&tstart=0

Those users must be lacking the special sauce that you have in your phone that makes it last for 2 days.

Battery use is predominantly dependent on the user. The quality of voice/data reception, amount of use, notifications, etc...

I do a lot of rooting on my SII, trying different ROMS, different Kernels, different modems, etc... and some of these are done purely because I'm looking to increase battery life.

All in all though - over a period of time my battery life is pretty consistent.

I get not quite 1 full day from a charge... for me it doesn't matter because at the end of the I plug the phone in next to my bed and its always ready to go. Getting more than 1 day is just not something that is important to me.

My wife's i4 certainly has better battery life. However, there are SO many variables to consider, mostly that I use my phone considerably more than she does. It has a bigger, brighter screen... I have more apps running in the background providing notifications...

So it is literally impossible to compare battery life.

Would be like comparing two completely different automobiles - one with a fuel injected v6 to a turbo 4... with two different drivers and on two different road courses... which one gets better mileage?

Now the one thing I can do that my wife can't do... is I can always pop out my battery and replace it with a fresh recharged one...

My iPhone 5 went below 20% for the first time in a single day last night. I was on it all day. Any battery that can last a whole day is acceptable for me. I don't need multiple days out of it.

I have no idea for sure if it is the service or what. In my experience though, I feel like that is key. On verizon I always have a signal. I think possibly the phones get drained searching for signal. If you have verizon but live in a more rural area maybe that is it. If not I have no idea. Honestly I use my phone like crazy, have 3 email accounts set up in it..etc. One thing I would say is that I only push my gmail accounts. Work emails I don't ever push. I'm at 89% right now and have been grinding my phone since 7AM.

So do you use your phone for work mostly by talking to people? I try and avoid personal conversation with others as I slowly transfer into a Cyborg. Plus, I've never had an iPhone that I felt had acceptable volume whether playing music or listening to others on the phone.

I think my work account is what drains my battery more than yours.
