Absolutely! The strength of signal is critical to battery life! This is one reason the whole discussion concerning battery life is pretty much moot... varies by phone, user, service, age of device, etc...

That said - I do get the feeling that iPhones have slightly better battery life than Android phones (no idea about Windows or BB devices - but who cares about them!)...

For myself, the ability to replace a battery far out weighs any battery life advantage an iPhone may have

I have a Mophie for my iPhone 5. It's awesome and a perfect way to get more juice. No disassembly or reboot needed. Just slap it on and you're good to go to get a full recharge. And it's a high quality great feeling case.

Some of the newer droids dont allow you to pull the battery. There are design advantages to having the battery built in. It was never an issue with me. My last htc had a built in battery.

I sell my idevices every 2-3 years ( they hold their value better than any phone i have owned) and it pays for my next one. Due to this, i have never had a battery issue so far.

Ios is a very efficient os. I do think it helps with battery. There is a price to be paid with too much freedom in the world of tech.

iPhones battery was in fact better than androids. The iPhone doest do "true" multitasking like Android does. They also have pretty underclocked CPU's. iPhones also dont have widgets running in the background along with apps updating themselves.
Though, if you never kept your screw on in your iDevice, swapping batteries i would say makes the iPhone equal to other phones with removable ones. Removing batteries on iPhones were insanely easy and quick to do. It may not be the preferred method to constantly have life in the phone, but it does the job just fine.

I do not take credit for these pictures. Nor do i have the information to verify if these are real. Take this post with a grain of salt. These are allegedly the new iPhone 6 or 5s. Seems believable since Apple has made a odd patent on some wrap around display a little while ago.

I'm eyeing the BB Q10 for my next phone. Still not sure about the tradeoff of having a smaller screen, but I do enjoy the process of typing on a physical keyboard.

I'm amazed constantly at how stable and nearly perfect the iPhone 5 is. There is nothing that would make me switch. I have everything I need with it.

As a former Apple hater and blackberry queen I admit that holding back from switching to iPhone for several years was the worst mistake of my life other than quitting the Men's 4.5 Tour at the height of my pure worldwide dominance of the sport.

It really is. Im still loving mine.

I had one day last week where the battery drained fast. Maybe due to a rogue app. I rebooted it and it is back to killer battery life. That one odd day was weird though, but this phone is awesome.

I'm leaning that way too. Next Tues I'm up for a new phone (current iPhone 4S). If AT&T will let me switch the microSIM back and forth - can't totally cut the iOS cord - I probably will.

But on iOS, anyone playing Dots? Funny that people claim there are other similar games that were out first, but these guys apparently have 'friends in the press', get mentioned and now have over a mil downloads in a week. A mindless time waster but fun.

Have you had the occasion to use the GPS of the HTC One in a car? With the all-metal unibody, does that affect the GPS connection?

It's no problem at all with the iPhone 5 so it shouldn't be a problem with the GTC One. BTW, anyone thinking about the Google Galaxy Nexus S4?

I got an S4 the other day. It made me a sandwich and then fetched the morning paper.

Also, I can watch movies projected in 3-D holographic 4K.

I like the Google branded Nexus products over the ones that you buy from the manufacturers or the phone companies as you get pure Android and fast updates. Daughter's phone is a Google Galaxy Nexus and my tablet is the Google Nexus 7. They are prompt on supporting our devices with Android updates.

Looking forward to the Google Samsung S4 phone just announced today - an S4 without the baked-in Samsung bloatware. I appreciate some or most of the whizz-bang S4 features trumpeted by Samsung are proprietary to the TouchWiz interface. Hence they're not Android-specific features but heck all I want and need is a fuss-free skin like that promised by a pure-Android device and without the need to root it.

I gotta be honest. Typing on iPhone sucks for me.

My only gripe. I spend way too much time correcting. But I deal.

Right that is why CNN reporters mostly use Blackberry. Iphone or Galaxy is just not made for that purpose. not sure how to alleviate it except they could provide a minikeypad that can attach to the phone.
or make a virtual 3D popup keyboard.

I gave up the BB for a free Galaxy S II (for now), b/c of:

    a) Larger screen

    b) GPS applications (I think it's called I go), that let me store the maps on the SD card, so that they work without wi-fi/internet connection.

Don't think you can have b on IPhone, do you?

BTW, I don't want to buy a data plan yet, but just a voice plan ($20 on one phone and $30 on the second), just b/c I'm already paying $75 to the same provider (Rogers) for Internet (computer). Wi-fi is enough for me, for now.

That depends, I had an SIII and enjoyed it. I had a brief stint with the S4 and found it to be very laggy and found some of the gesture things to very almost gimmicky. I thought the new software would be enough to warrant the upgrade but it's not, if anything, the amount of new software has bloated down the S4 and actually has compromised it's performance.

Nexus branded devices are not meant for the mainstream consumer. Manufacturers software adds a high level of value to the phones (sometimes to even a rediculous amount as is the case of the S4). Most people find the bland google software too vanilla and there isn't enough value add to make it worth the mainstream consumer's while.

But isn't that the whole point of a Nexus (or pure Google) device? They are made to be rooted, hacked or modded. Why would anyone want a GS4 without the software value add-ons? Seem's like a $300 waste of money since you could get basically the same thing with the Nexus 4 for $300 cheaper than the $649 price of the vanilla S4.

Agree with the bolded part. I believe that this was a conscious strategic decision from Samsung to load up the S4 with all sorts of fresh-off-the-presses software and hardware features. Perhaps, it was motivated by a desire to show the world that Samsung can innovate too, and isn't as much of a copycat as Apple claims it is. Perhaps, it was a way to pre-empt the introduction of these features by other companies, or to give Samsung the upper hand in the "We did this years ago" style of customer outreach :) .

These features are mostly gimmicky at this point. However, real killer applications of these features cannot be far behind.

Swype keyboard is cool, I prefer using Swiftkey over the stock keyboard, the keys are bigger, has swype, and don't have to type as much due to the predictive text. It starting offering swype a few months ago in an update and it's better than the stock samsung version. The iphone keyboard is ok but it's easy to mistype words due to the small keys.
