Is it 'cool' for 2hbh players to hit 1hbh passing shots?

4:14 in the video, Hewitt hits a 1hbh passing shot.

What, is this some sort of trend? If you hit topspin 2hbh, why not hit topspin backhands with 2 hands for EVERY situation?

It takes 20+ years to learn either the 2 handed or 1 handed backhand.

Why are Hewitt and Tsonga trying to hit a 1hbh randomly?

    Quick answer: they don't.

They hit them when the other option is to hit an easy slice to their opponent who is now at the net. Go-for-broke - may as well in those situations.

I think both. Everyone ignore's him when he posts in other people's threads anyway.

It is little odd. There are alot of people who say the 1hb does not offer a reach advantage but I think it does offer easier footwork when on the full run.

Its possible we may see in the future players who use one handed topspin backhands and 2hb depending on position and situation. 2hb for returning and on short balls and 1hb for defensive rallies and passing shots..

    Why the future..

In the 90's we already had Marc Rosset, he mixed up his 2hbh and 1hbh all the time, though at the end of his career I seem to remember him hitting more 1hbh than 2hbhs.

At my club, all the 2 handed players, even the old ladies, hit 1hbh passing shots all day long.

    btw, you forgot Baggy !

Counted 9 one-handed backhands in Hewitt's game. 8 of them were slices and in one case Hewitt was desperately chasing the ball and couldn't get it using two-handed grip. What's strange about it? All the players bar Fabrice Santoro use one-handed backhand slice.

MariaRafael, the OP means the "topspin" backhands.
