A good player of elder years giving me tips insisted that only maybe 150,000 gals in the ENTIRE US play tennis regularly in season. He said once a week or more every week, not only 3 times in summer. 150,000 out of what, 100,000,000 aged 8 to 80? They say 5 million gals play soccer aged 8 to 21. Is tennis this unpopular? He also claimed many tennis regulars are now over 60. Is it so dead a sport for women here. Local college can't even find U.S. gals for #1-3 singles to make a good team!

I'm suspicious that your friend's *source* was a US Soccer association of some sort. I'd suggest you check with the USTA.

I'd bet more than 150k women participate in the Leagues alone. (But I'm not personally intrigued enough to do the checking myself.)

There is NO way that less than 150k women play tennis in the US. Sorry, there just isn't.

So only 150,000 U.S. women play tennis at least once a week? No way. I doubt anyone would even bother selling racquets and apparel if that was the case.
